CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNCG redshirt senior forward Kristin Player and junior midfielder Karin Sendel earned spots on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association's University Division All-State Women's Soccer Team, the organization announced Wednesday.
Player was UNCG's leading scorer on the season with 25 points on eight goals and nine assists. The Placentia, Calif., native, who matched her career high in points and set a new career high in assists on the year, was a first-team All-Southern Conference selection for the second time in her career in 2011. Her 23 points and seven assists in SoCon play led the league.
The Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week on Oct. 12, Player was also named the SoCon's Player of the Week and was one of CollegeSoccer360.com's Primetime Performers after a week in which she scored dramatic game-winners in the closing minutes of victories over The Citadel and College of Charleston.
This is Player's second selection to the NCCSIA team, as she was also honored by the organization in 2007.
Sendel, in her first year at UNCG after transferring from Ohio State, was a second-team All-SoCon pick for the Spartans. The Kiryat Tivon, Israel, native was the Spartans' second-leading scorer with nine points on two goals and five assists. She started 18 of UNCG's 19 matches, missing only the Spartans' contest against No. 10 Duke while she was fulfilling national team duties for Israel against France.
Sendel was one of UNCG's most durable players, playing all but 27 minutes of the Spartans' 11 SoCon matches. She had a breakout game in just her third career game in a UNCG uniform, scoring a goal and dishing off two assists in a 4-1 win over George Mason.
With two players on the NCCSIA squad, UNCG ran its streak to six straight years with multiple selections.
