GREENSBORO, N.C. – East Tennessee State's Alesi Osorio struck for a goal with just 43 seconds left in the second overtime as the Buccaneers upset nationally ranked UNCG on its home field Wednesday night, 1-0.

With the teams just over a minute from settling for a scoreless draw, ETSU (2-0) earned a corner kick. Nate Hodges sent a ball into the box that UNCG couldn't quite clear, and Henry Klein collected the ball on the right wing. Klein sent a pass into the box for Osorio, who buried it from 15 yards out in the 110th minute to lift the Bucs to victory.

UNCG (1-1), which this week jumped into the top 25 in four national polls (19 College Soccer News, 20 Soccer America, 23 Soccer Times and 24 NSCAA/Continental Tire), outshot the Bucs 15-7 and had a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks but couldn't put away any of its opportunities.

"There's so much parity in today's game," UNCG coach Justin Maullin said. "People look at East Tennessee State and think we're a team that should handle them quite easily. That doesn't happen. Every team is quite capable of coming in here and beating us, and our guys learned that the hard way tonight."

Hakan Ilhan and Oddur Gudmundsson shared game-high honors with four shots each for the Spartans.

UNCG's best scoring chance came late in regulation, when Ilhan sent a cross in from the left wing that found Gudmundsson alone inside the 6-yard box in the 79th minute. Gudmundsson's one-touch attempted sailed high to keep the game scoreless at the time.

Freshman Cameron Owens also had a good look just after halftime, but his attempt also went high in the 50th minute.

Ilhan had a pair of solid chances in the overtime periods, but his header off an Aaron Reifschneider corner kick was just high in the 97th minute and his header in the 102nd was saved by ETSU keeper Ryan Coulter.

UNCG dominated possession in regulation, but the Bucs still found themselves with some solid scoring opportunities. Hodges nearly scored on a direct free kick from 35 yards out in the 27th minute, but UNCG keeper Peyton Ford was able to punch it safely over the crossbar.

ETSU had another golden scoring chance in the 66th minute, but Aaron Schoenfeld's header went off the left post.

Coulter made four saves in picking up the shutout, including three in the second half and one in the second overtime. Ford made three saves for UNCG, all of them in the opening stanza.

The loss snapped UNCG's five-match unbeaten streak at the UNCG Soccer Stadium. Still, the Spartans are 10-3-2 in their last 15 home matches, dating back to the 2009 season.

The Spartans return to action Monday with their first match of the season. UNCG will take on Clemson in Clemson, S.C., at 7 p.m.
