Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C- Sophomore Alicia Bazonski (Sheffield, Mass./Mount Everett) threw the 12th no-hitter in program history Sunday morning in a 1-0 UNCG (14-10) victory over Presbyterian (12-9) in the final day of the Seahawk Invitational hosted by UNC-Wilmington. She struck out five batters and walked three in her first collegiate no-hitter and the Spartans first since Cory Mattson's February 11, 2011.
Bazonski worked a one, two, three inning in both the first two innings ending both frames with a strikeout. Despite a leadoff walk to Kylie Young in the top of the third, the Spartans were able to escape the inning on a double play in which the Jordan Ashley was called out for runner's interference.
UNCG scored its only run in the bottom half of the inning when Kendall McKinney (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) reached on a single up the middle with two outs. Lindsay Thomas (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) drove her home with a double to right field for a 1-0 Spartans lead.
Bazonski started off the fourth inning with another strikeout and cruised though the next two frames. The Blue Hose got their second base runner of the day when Bazonski walked Ashley on four straight pitches after striking out Young to begin the frame. She escaped the jam when she got her second punchout of the inning and fifth of the game sending Madison Loganecker back to the Blue Hose's dugout after a big swing and miss.
It was a quick one, two, three inning at the plate for UNCG in the bottom of the sixth and Bazonski was back on the mound to close out the game in search for her fourth win in five games. She walked her third batter of the game with two outs but a cleanly fielded ground ball to Hagan Kiser (Asheboro, N.C./Southwestern) secured the no-hitter to end the game.
Thomas, McKinney, Stephanie Bryden (Orlando, Fla./East River) and Tory Wright (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominon) all recorded the Spartans only hits of the game.
Sydney Seigler threw a complete game for PC with five strikeouts and no walked batters. She allowed just four hits and one run in six innings of work.
Bazonski's no-hitter marks the first of her career and first since head coach Janelle Breneman took over the program. It's the sixth no-hitter in program history that was not in a mercy rule game and is the sixth no-hitter to be thrown in the month of March for UNCG.
Bazonski moves to 8-2 overall this season with four of those wins coming in the last week.
UNCG returns to action against Bryant Tuesday, March 15, for a double header. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
