Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. –The UNCG softball team (17-10) blanked George Washington (9-9) Thursday afternoon in the first game of the Blue/Gold Challenge. Hagan Kiser (Asheboro, N.C./Southwestern) went three-for-three with one run batted in for a career-high three hits in a game. Tory Wright (Potomac Falls, Va./Dominion) also went three-for-four with a pair of RBI and her third home run of the season.
Alicia Bazonski (Sheffield, Mass./Mount Everett) earned the win tossing five scoreless innings. She allowed just two hits while striking out one and not walking a batter.
Danica Bishop (Irvine, Calif./Nebraska) threw two innings of relief allowing just one hit.
The Spartans took an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Danielle Vega (Rialto, Calif./Aquinas) reached on an error by which scored Lindsay Thomas (Irvine, Calif./Northwood) from second. Wright singled through the right side a batter later for a 2-0 UNCG lead. Kendall McKinney (Suwanee, Ga./North Gwinnett) hit a sacrifice fly to left field making it a three run game. It was then that Kiser hit a single up the middle with two outs for her first hit of the game and a 4-0 lead.
A single by Thomas in the bottom of the third scored McKinney who led off the inning with a six-pitch walk. Wright homered in the bottom of the fourth for the 6-0 Spartans lead.
UNCG threatened again in the bottom of the fifth but stranded bases loaded when Vega struck out swinging for the final out.
Bishop tossed a one, two, three top of the sixth inning. George Washington popped into a double play to end the game in the top of the seventh.
Bazonski improves to 10-2 overall while Jayme Costlow was handed the loss as she moves to 5-4 overall in 2016.
UNCG did not record and error in the field in the victory and tacked on 10 hits as a team with Kiser, Wright and Thomas all having multi-hit games.
