Women's Soccer to Open Home SoCon Action Against Furman and Wofford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's soccer plays its first Southern Conference games at home this season against Furman and Wofford this weekend. The Spartans face the Paladins Friday at 7 p.m. and Terriers Sunday at 2 p.m.

Friday's game will be streamed on ESPN+, and Sunday's game will be on the SoCon Digital Network. Paul Roper will call both games and will be joined by Phil Cox on Friday. Links for the streams and live stats are available at UNCGSpartans.com.

Pink Game

  • Will have its annual Pink Game against Furman.
  • Free dessert buffet for the first 300 fans.

All-Time Series Vs. Furman & Wofford

  • Owns a 15-13-3 record against Furman and has never lost in 25 meetings (21-0-4) against Wofford.
  • The Spartans and Paladins have combined to earn a share of the league's regular season title in 17 of the last 23 seasons.
  • Have outscored the Terriers 19-3 in 12 home games.
  • Defeated Wofford 4-3 in double overtime and lost 2-0 at Furman last year.

Scouting UNCG

  • Enters the matchup with an 8-2-1, 3-0-0 record and have outscored opponents 26-9.

  • Sits in a tie for second place with ETSU in the SoCon standings with nine points, one behind Samford (3-0-1). The Spartans and Bucs are the only two remaining teams with perfect conference records.

  • Cienna Rideout leads the team both in goals (nine) and points (20), which are the most points by a Spartan since Chesney White had 37 in 2014. After missing the opening weekend, Rideout scored in four-straight games, all game-winners. She leads the SoCon in goals per game (1.0), game-winning goals per game (0.44) and points per game (2.22).

  • Nicole Souply is next in scoring with four goals and eight points.

  • Goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper has played all but 26 minutes this year and ranks second in the league in save percentage (.812) with 39 saves.

  • Won 2-1 at Mercer last Sunday.
  • Emily Jensen scored the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute.
  • Grace Regal tied the game up in the 44th minute with her first collegiate goal.
  • Finished with a 17-9 shots advantage, including an 10-4 edge in the second half.

Scouting Furman

  • Owns a 6-5-0, 1-3-0 record and went 1-1 last weekend at home with a 1-0 win over Chattanooga and 1-0 loss to Samford.

  • Tied for seventh place with The Citadel in the league standings with three points.

  • Freshman forward Erin Houlihan and junior midfielder/forward Caitlyn Reilly are tied for the team-lead in points (10), and junior forward Amanda Baker is tied with Houlihan with a team-high four goals.

  • Junior goalkeeper Kellsey Weaver has started in 10 of 11 games with a 0.83 goals against average, .750 save percentage and 21 saves.

  • Picked to finish third with two first-place votes in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Scouting Wofford

  • Enters the weekend with a 2-9-1, 0-0-4 record and are on a five-game losing streak.

  • Was shut out at home twice last weekend against Chattanooga (1-0) and Samford (2-0).

  • Ranks last in the SoCon in goals per game (0.83), assists per game (0.33) and goals against average (2.54).

  • Sophomore midfielder/forward Dani Segovia leads the team in goals (three) and points (six).
