Women's Soccer Plays ETSU in SoCon Semifinals

GREENSBORO, N.C. – No. 2 seed UNC Greensboro women's soccer plays No. 3 ETSU Friday at 6 p.m. at Bear Field on Mercer's campus in Macon, Ga. in the Semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament. The winner will advance to the championship game to face either No. 1 Samford or No. 5 Furman, who square off before the Spartans' game at 4 p.m.

All-Time Series Vs. ETSU

  • Owns a 11-5-0 record versus ETSU.
  • Defeated ETSU 11-0 in 1997 and 9-0 in 1998 in the only matchups in the SoCon Tournament.
  • The Bucs won this season's matchup 2-1 at home on Oct. 14.

Scouting UNCG

  • Sports a 13-4-1 overall record and went 7-2-0 in the SoCon.
  • Outscoring opponents 42-16, including 27-8 against conference members.
  • Leads the SoCon in goals per game (2.33) and assists per game (2.28) and are second in goals against average (0.88).
  • Have the SoCon Player of the Year, Cienna Rideout, and Freshmen of the Year, Nicole Souply. Emily Jensen, Heida Ragney Vidarsdottir and Marissa Ferrantino joined Rideout as first-team all-conference players when the league announced season awards on Tuesday. Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper and Grace Kennedy were selected to the second-team, and Gracie Timbario and Kayla Campbell along with Souply earned all-freshman honors.
  • Rideout leads the team in both goals (12) and points (31), which are the most points by a Spartan since Chesney White had 37 in 2014. After missing the opening weekend, Rideout scored in four-straight games, all game-winners. She leads the league in goals (0.75), game-winning goals (0.31) and points per game (1.94) and is third in assists per game (0.44).
  • Souply is next in scoring with seven goals and 16 points, tying for sixth in goals in the league and eighth in points.
  • Goalkeeper Tyler-Cooper has played all but 57 minutes this year and ranks first in the league in save percentage (.828) along with 72 saves.

Last Time Out-UNCG

  • Defeated No. 10 VMI 3-2 at home last Saturday in the quarterfinal round.
  • Trailed twice but tied the game both times with two unanswered goals to win the game.
  • Jensen scored the first equalizing goal in the 45th minute on a header off a corner kick from Ashton Duty.
  • Souply got the second tying goal in the 68th minute in the middle of the box after a cross from Rideout.
  • Grace Regal provided the game-winning goal off another pass from Rideout.

Scouting ETSU

  • Defeated No. 6 Mercer 1-0 at last Sunday in the quarterfinals the conference tournament. Sophomore forward Sarah Connelly scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute.
  • Owns an 8-11-0 overall record and went 5-4-0 in league play.
  • Ended the regular season with a pair of 2-1, overtime losses on the road to Mercer and The Citadel.
  • Had four players earn All-SoCon honors. Senior forward Eleonora Goldoni was ETSU's lone representative on the All-SoCon First-Team. Senior midfielders Rachel Harbin and Fiona Dodge and sophomore forward Sarah Connolly were voted to the second-team.
