Women's Soccer Faces Furman in SoCon Championship Game

GREENSBORO, N.C. – No. 2 seed UNC Greensboro women's soccer plays No. 5 Furman in the Southern Conference Championship Game Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bear Field on Mercer's campus in Macon, Ga. The winner receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

All-Time Series Vs. Furman

  • Owns a 16-13-3 record against Furman.
  • The Spartans and Paladins have combined to earn a share of the league's regular season title in 17 of the last 24 seasons and also 14 tournament championships.
  • Defeated Furman 1-0 at home this year on Oct. 5.

Scouting UNCG

  • Sports a 14-4-1 overall record and went 7-2-0 in the SoCon.
  • Outscoring opponents 47-17, including 32-9 against conference members.
  • Leads the SoCon in goals per game (2.47) and assists per game (2.32) and are second in goals against average (0.89).
  • Have the SoCon Player of the Year, Cienna Rideout, and Freshmen of the Year, Nicole Souply. Emily Jensen, Heida Ragney Vidarsdottir and Marissa Ferrantino joined Rideout as first-team all-conference players when the league announced season awards on Tuesday. Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper and Grace Kennedy were selected to the second-team, and Gracie Timbario and Kayla Campbell along with Souply earned all-freshman honors.
  • Rideout leads the team in both goals (14) and points (35), which are the most points by a Spartan since Chesney White had 37 in 2014. After missing the opening weekend, Rideout scored in four-straight games, all game-winners. She leads the league in goals (0.82), game-winning goals (0.29) and points per game (2.06) and is second in assists per game (0.41).
  • Souply is next in scoring with eight goals and 18 points, tying for fourth in goals in the league and also fifth in points.
  • Goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper has played all but 57 minutes this year and ranks first in the league in save percentage (.826) along with 76 saves.

Last Time Out-UNCG

  • Defeated No. 3 ETSU 5-1 Friday in the semifinal round.
  • Souply scored the game's first goal in the 19th minute on a header off Ashton Duty's corner kick.
  • Grace Regal provided the game-winning goal for the second-straight game in the 44th minute.
  • Jordin Mosley got her first collegiate goal in the 51st minute, and Rideout capped the scoring with two goals of her own.

Scouting Furman

  • Upset No. 1 Samford 2-0 in the first semifinal game on Friday evening and beat No. 4 Western Carolina 1-0 on the road in the previous round.
  • Owns a 12-6-0 overall record and went 5-4-0 in league play.
  • Are on a six-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 13-2, since losing at UNCG.
  • Had four players earn All-SoCon honors. Junior midfielder Caitlyn Reilly garnered first team honors, and senior defender Virginia Poe was named second team All-SoCon. Forwards Grace Baghdady and Erin Houlihan were named to the league's all-freshman squad.
