GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG baseball, fresh off the first three-game Southern Conference road sweep since 2008, continues its road swing Tuesday as it heads to High Point for a matchup with the Panthers at Williard Stadium. The Spartans enter the contest at 24-7 on the season, with High Point coming in at 17-14, after sweeping Charleston Southern over the weekend.
Earlier this season, UNCG defeated the Panthers 12-6 at the UNCG Baseball Stadium, extending the all-time record to 19-11 in favor of UNCG. Head coach Link Jarrett evened his all-time record against the Panthers at 4-4 with the win. UNCG will start senior right-handed pitcher Dan Loats. Loats has made five starts this season, going 4.2 innings in his last start against North Carolina A&T. Loats has a 3.65 ERA and has struck out 20 hitters this season. UNCG has a team ERA of 3.75 with three relievers with an ERA lowers than 2.30 in Andrew Wantz, Easton Welch and Jack Maynard.
The Spartan offense ranks third in the country with a .320 team batting average. Cesar Trejo and Andrew Moritz each hit over a .400 average this season. Trejo hits at a .419 average in 31 games. He leads the team with 11 doubles and 33 RBI, and is tied with Moritz for the team-lead with four triples. Moritz hits at a .403 average with seven doubles, four triples, three home runs and 29 RBI. Dillon Stewart leads the team with seven home runs and is hitting at a .350 average with 26 RBI.
High Point hits at a .289 average with 34 home runs on the season. Hunter Lee leads the team with a .371 average with four home runs and 28 RBI. Austen Zente hits at a .343 average at leads the team with seven home runs and 16 stolen bases. Eight players have hit multiple home runs this season for the Panthers.
The Panther pitching staff has a team ERA of 4.81. Harrison Smith got the start earlier this season in Greensboro. That game was Smith's only start as he has an 11.05 ERA in 14.2 innings pitched. Rion Murrah and Grey Lyttle have ERAs of 2.40 and 1.37, respectively in a combined 21 appearances. Murrah has recorded two of High Point's five saves on the season with 35 strikeouts in 30.0 innings of work.
