GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's soccer opened its 2018 season with a 3-0 victory over Winthrop in an exhibition game Friday night at UNCG Soccer Stadium. The Spartans scored two goals on their first two shots to earn the win.

Playing three 30-minute periods instead of two thirty-minute halves, UNCG got its first goal in the 16th minute of the first period. After a ball bounced around on a corner kick, Heida Ragney Vidarsdottir corralled a loose ball and chipped it a few yards away in the right side of the box. Just two minutes later Kaley Tucker doubled the Spartans' lead. Tucker booted the ball in the net from the middle of the box after Jordin Mosley dribbled down the right side and delivered a cross to her from the right corner.

The last goal came from Grace Regal in the 68th minute. Regal forced a turnover from a Winthrop defender and scored just inside the left side of the box.

Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper and Anna Bryant combined for the shutout as the Spartan defense limited Winthrop to just one shot on goal. UNCG held an 8-3 shot advantage, and all but one shot was on goal.

UNCG will play its final exhibition game at home Sunday at 6 p.m. against James Madison.
