Women's Soccer Faces Longwood on the Road

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNCG women's soccer will face Longwood on the road Friday at 7 p.m.

All-Time Series Vs. Longwood

  • Longwood won the only previous game between the two schools 1-0 last season on Sept. 8 at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Scouting UNCG

  • Enter the road matchup with a 2-1-1 record.
  • Tied Elon 0-0 on Aug. 19 in only road game of the season so far.
  • Kaley Tucker leads the team in points (seven) and goals (three) and is ranked tied for third in both categories in the Southern Conference.
  • Cienna Rideout is the only other Spartan to have more than one goal. Rideout made her debut last Friday in the 3-1 win over Richmond and scored twice on the weekend.
  • Goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper has played all 380 minutes this year and has made 16 saves with a 1.42 goals against average. She won the first SoCon Player of the Week award of the season after recording a .900 save percentage and 0.45 goals against average in the opening weekend.
  • The reigning SoCon Tournament Champion received the most first-place votes with five in the SoCon Coaches' Preseason Poll and was selected to finish second.
  • Placed a league-high three players on the preseason all-conference team: Rideout, Heida Ragney Vidarsdottir and Emily Jensen.
  • The three all-league preseason selections were the most for UNCG since 2011 when the program had four players picked for the preseason honor.
  • Jensen earned first-team All-SoCon honors last season, helping the Spartans record nine shutouts as a team and finishing second on the team in scoring with 12 points (five goals and two assists).
  • Vidarsdottir garnered second-team All-SoCon last year, scoring two goals and dishing out an assist.
  • Rideout led the team last year in points (16) and goals (seven), scoring all but one of her goals in the last five games of the season.
  • Tyler-Cooper led the SoCon last season in save percentage (.848), was second in saves (106) and shutouts (eight) and third in goals against average (0.94) last year to go along with a 10-7-3 record.
  • Return 15 letterwinners, seven starters and 83 percent of the goal production and welcome 12 newcomers, all freshmen.

Last Time Out-UNCG

  • Lost for the first time this season 4-3 to UNCW at home last Sunday.
  • Tied 1-1 at halftime, the Seahawks scored three of the first four goals in the second half.
  • Jensen scored her first goal of the season on a penalty kick.
  • Rideout scored her second goal in as many games played, and Tucker recorded her third goal on a header for the last goal of the game.
  • UNCW finished with a slight advantage in shots (13-12) and corner kicks (5-4) while UNCG had one more shot on goal (8-7).

Scouting Longwood

  • Enters its home contest with a 1-2-1 record.
  • Lone win was a 4-0 decision over Richmond at home. The two losses came to Charlotte (1-0) in overtime in the season-opener and American (2-0) last Thursday.
  • Senior midfielder Kelly Almeida and senior forward/midfielder Paige Robertson are tied for the team-leads in goals (two) and points (four).
  • Longwood's starting goalkeeper, sophomore Madison Van Dyke, boasts a 0.93 goals against average and has allowed more than one goal just once.
  • Finished the 2017 season 13-5-3 under Big South Coach of the Year Todd Dyer and advanced to the Big South Championship game for the first time in program history.
  • Picked second in the Big South Preseason Coaches' Poll. Reigning Big South Defensive Player of the Year senior Sydney Wallace was selected to repeat as the conference's top defender.
  • Return all but three starters from that squad, including Big South first-team junior forward Emilie Kupsov, second-team defender/midfielder Taylor Alvey, honorable mention senior forward/midfielder Kathryn Miller and reigning Big South Freshman of the Year defender Carrie Reaver.
  • Kupsov, who led Longwood with seven goals last year, finished second in the conference's preseason attacking player of the year voting.

Last Time Out-Longwood

  • Tied Towson 1-1 on the road.
  • The Lancers allowed just five shots on goal and survived eight corner kicks.
  • Almeida scored Longwood's lone goal in the 50th minute off a save from sophomore midfielder Emily Mothersbaugh's shot.
  • Almeida led Longwood with four shots, two of which were on goal.
