UNCG Men's Soccer Opens SoCon Season Against VMI

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNCG men's soccer opens conference play this weekend, hosting the visiting VMI Keydets at UNCG Soccer Stadium on Saturday at 7 p.m. The Spartans are looking to get back in the win column, after a pair of hard fought matches at Davidson and High Point. The side collected a 1-1 draw against the Wildcats last Tuesday, before falling to the Panthers 1-0 on Saturday, despite outshooting their opponents 35-10 over those two contests.

MATCHUP HISTORY

• The Spartans are currently on an 18-match winning streak against VMI

• UNCG has not lost the first match of the SoCon season in over eight years, with their last conference opener loss coming in 2010, to former member Elon

• Between their last two matches against Davidson and High Point, the Spartans' defense has held their opponents to just 10 shots over 200 minutes of play, with just four of those attempts going on frame

• Junior transfer Bryant Huerta earned his first start wearing a Spartan uniform, playing 75 minutes in UNCG's road contest at High Point University

• Sophomore keeper Broden Schull sits third in Division I men's soccer with a 6.90 save per match average on the year, while his 69 total stops rank second

• VMI's lone win of the season came against Division III side Regent University, scoring four of their nine goals on the year in that matchup

COMING UP NEXT

The Spartans will get their first taste of the road this SoCon season, traveling to Nashville for a Tuesday night matchup at Belmont. UNCG has never lost to the Bruins in their program history, going 1-0-1 in the pair's two meetings overall.
