CHAPEL HILL, N.C. –UNC Greensboro men's golf (300-297-287) used a one-under 287 in the third round of the Tar Heel Intercollegiate to move three spots up the leaderboard to finish the tournament in a tie for sixth place alongside Michigan State.
The Spartans had two golfers finish in the top-20 of the tournament, led by sophomore Zack Swanson (72-72-73) who ended up in a tie for 14th place. During Sunday's third round, Swanson posted a one-over 73, which was highlighted by back-to-back birdies on Holes 6 and 7.
Fellow sophomore Nick Lyerly (75-71-72), meanwhile, carded an even-72 in the third round to move up to a tie for 17th place. The Salisbury, N.C., native collected three birdies and three bogeys during the final 18 holes.
Senior Bryce Hendrix (78-75-70) had the best round for UNCG on Sunday at two-under 70. Only once (a bogey on Hole 1) was Hendrix over par on Sunday. He finished tied for 31st place.
Junior Jonathan Brightwell (75-79-72) finished the tournament tied for 46th place after turning in an even-72 in the third round. Brightwell birdied five times on the day with four of those birdies come on the front-nine.
Junior Grant Powell (80-79-73) posted a one-over 73 on Sunday – his best round of the tournament – to finish tied for 68th place.
UNCG's next appearance on the course will come April 5-6 when the Spartans compete in the Irish Creek Collegiate that will take place in Kannapolis, N.C.
