UNCG Athletics Announces Actions Related to Self-Reported NCAA Violations

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro (UNCG) today received notification of the negotiated resolution of a self-reported NCAA violation related to impermissible recruiting contacts by the University's former head men's soccer coach. The initial reporting of this violation was previously announced on July 25, 2019.

The report recognized the University's established history of self-reporting, prompt acknowledgment of the violation and investigation, acceptance of responsibility, and imposition of meaningful corrective measures. The agreed-upon penalties are: probation to run consecutive to the probation associated with an unrelated self-reported violation, through July 24, 2023, and a fine of $5,000 payable to the NCAA. Additionally, prior to the 2019 season, the men's soccer coaching staff received a three-week ban on off-campus recruiting as well as all recruiting communication contacts with any prospective student-athletes. Additional details are available here.

Said UNCG Athletics Director Kim Record, "We have worked in collaboration with the NCAA to address this issue in full. We are confident that the actions taken here, in addition to the commitment of our current men's soccer coaching staff to operating with the highest standards of compliance, integrity, and transparency will enable us to move forward. We had an outstanding year under our new head coach and are looking forward to building on this recent success and our long-standing tradition of excellence in a sport that means a great deal to UNCG and our community."
