GREENSBORO, N.C. – Following its sixth overtime game of the season, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team wraps up a three-game homestand facing off against The Citadel in Southern Conference (SoCon) play on Sunday at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- Senior Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper returns in net for UNCG, as she was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for back-to-back shutouts to open the season and then earned the honor again three weeks ago for two more clean sheets.
- Among the conference, Tyler-Cooper leads the conference in saves per game (6.82), is second in save percentage (.872) and shutouts (5), is third in saves (75), and sixth in goals against average (0.94).
- Senior Nicole Souply and sophomore Caroline Woods lead the Spartans with two goals and four points each, while junior Maddy Gilhool follows with one goal and one assist for three points.
- UNCG was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Poll.
- Senior Kayla Campbell was the lone Spartan to be named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-SoCon team. She led all defenders in 2019 with five goals, while being a force on the back line helping UNCG to six clean sheets.
SPARTANS' LAST TIME OUT
- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team picked up a point in Southern Conference (SoCon) standings with a 1-1 double overtime tie against Mercer University Friday night.
- The Spartans' lone goal came from sophomore Caroline Woods, who scored her second goal in two games at UNCG Soccer Stadium. Senior Gracie Timbario helped in the goal.
- Senior goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper recorded six saves.
- Mercer outshot UNCG 17-11.
SCOUTING THE CITADEL
- Suzuka Yosue leads The Citadel and the SoCon with eight goals and 10 assists for 26 points.
- Sophie Saldivar and Jordyn Geller are the next Bulldogs, each with double-digit points.
- Saldivar has chipped in five goals and three assists for 13 points, while Geller has scored six goals for 12 points.
- Jess Newton has spent the most time in net for the Bulldogs, giving up eight goals with 57 saves.
- Newton leads the conference in save percentage (.877) and shutouts (6).
- The Citadel was picked to finish eighth in the SoCon, while Yosue was chosen to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
BULLDOGS' LAST TIME OUT
- The Citadel's Jordyn Geller scored a goal in each half to lead the Bulldogs to a 2-0 shutout victory over VMI Friday afternoon at Patchin Field.
- Geller recorded her first multi-goal game as a Bulldog. She is now second on the team with six goals on the season.
- In net, Jess Newton made three saves in registering her sixth clean sheet of the season.
- The Bulldogs outshot the Keydets 20-9.
PINK GAME
On Friday, October 1, the Spartans hosted VMI and sported bright pink socks and recognized and remembered those who have passed, are currently battling, and who are in remission from cancer.
