UNCG Cleans Up SoCon Awards

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Nine members of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer program earned All-Southern Conference accolades Thursday morning highlighted by the Spartans sweeping every major award.
 
Sophomore forward Theo Collomb was named the SoCon Player of the Year. Midfielder J.C. Ngando was tabbed as the SoCon Freshman of the Year. Sophomore Niclas Wild was selected as the Goalkeeper of the Year. Chris Rich shared SoCon Coach of the Year honors with Belmont's David Costa.
 
Overall, UNCG had six first-team selections as defenders Emmanuel Hagan, Joey Skinner, and Marco Milanese joined Collomb, Wild, and Ngando. Earning All-SoCon Second Team recognition was freshman midfielder Jack Birch and sophomore midfielder Daniel Mangarov.
 
In addition to Ngando, Skinner, and Birch, Basile Marc was named to the All-SoCon Freshman Team.
 
Hagan, Collomb, and Wild are repeat members of the All-SoCon men's soccer team. Collomb, Wild, and Ngando are also ranked among the top 20 nationally in major statistical categories.
 
They combined to help UNCG win the Southern Conference regular season championship and earn the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament. The Spartans won 13 matches, the most in a single season since the 2006 squad won 16 contests.
 
UNCG is ranked 19th by College Soccer News and 25th by the United Soccer Coaches. The Spartans are also fifth in the South Region of the United Soccer Coaches' poll.
 
The Spartans lead the country in goals (51), points (148), scoring offense (3.00), points per game (8.71), and goal differential (39). They are third in corner kicks per game (7.29), total assists (46), fourth in assists per game (2.71) and fifth in shutout percentage (0.588).
 
Here's a look at each of UNCG's honorees. You may be a while because these athletes have done plenty to help the Spartans enjoy a memorable campaign.
 
Theo Collomb
  • Leads NCAA in goals per game (1.00), goals (15), and points (35).
  • Second in NCAA in points per game (2.33), seventh in shots per game (4.07), ninth in shots on goal per game (1.93), and 25th in game-winning goals.
  • Five multi-goal games and three game-winning goals.
  • First-career hat trick against VMI on Sept. 25.
  • Named College Soccer News, TopDrawerSoccer.com, and United Soccer Coaches Association National Player of the Week (Sept. 28-30).
  • SoCon Player of the Week on Sept. 27.
  • SoCon Player of the Month for September.
  • Scored two goals during a 3-1 win over then No. 2 Clemson on Sept. 21.
  • Tied for third in the SoCon in game-winning goals (three) and tied for sixth in assists (five) and assists per game (0.31).
 
J.C. Ngando
  • Leads UNCG with eight assists.
  • Was second on the Spartans with five assists and 18 points.
  • Ended the season with at least one point in six of UNCG's final seven matches.
  • Had three assists in a 3-0 win over Wofford.
  • Had a goal and an assist in a 6-0 win over Winthrop.
  • Scored first goal during UNCG's 3-1 win over Clemson.
  • Named SoCon Player of the Week on Oct. 26.
  • Named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week.
  • Ranked 13th nationally in assists per game (0.57) and 16th in total assists (eight). 
 
Niclas Wild
  • Posted nine clean sheets.
  • Named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 26.
  • Nationally, he is second in shutouts (nine) and 12th in goals against average (.726). 
 
Joey Skinner
  • Was second on the Spartans with 15 points.
  • Was second on the Spartans with seven assists.
  • Scored four goals.
  • Had two assists in a win over Radford.
  • Named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week after scoring a goal and recording an assist against Furman in a 3-0 win.
  • Led a defense that posted 10 shutouts.
  • Scored first collegiate goal and recorded his first assist during a 2-0 win over Gardner Webb.
  • Named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Top Freshman List, ranked eighth.
  • Tied for third in the SoCon in assists (seven), fourth in assists per game (0.41), tied for fifth in game-winning goals (two), ninth in points (15), and 10th in points per game (0.88).  
 
Emmanuel Hagan
  • Led a defense that posted 10 shutouts, including one on the road against Virginia.
  • Scored first collegiate goal during a 3-0 win over Mercer.
  • SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 26.
 
Marco Milanese
  • Led a defense that posted 10 shutouts, including one on the road against Virginia.
  • Scored game-winning goal in overtime against Coastal Carolina on the road.
  • SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 5.
 
Daniel Mangarov
  • Scored four goals and had three assists for 11 points.
  • Scored a penalty kick goal against Saint Joseph's.
  • Had a goal and an assist to fuel a 7-1 over USC Upstate.
  • Has two game-winning goals.
 
Basile Marc
  • Scored first collegiate goal in 3-0 win over Wofford.
  • Notched assists in games against Winthrop and Furman.
  • Started 15 of UNCG's 17 matches.
  • Named to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Top Freshman List, ranked 38th.
 
Jack Birch
  • Started 13 of UNCG's 16 matches.
  • Scored two goals, including a highlight-reel one against ETSU.
  • Scored first career goal during a 7-1 win over USC Upstate.
  • Recorded an assist against Winthrop.
 
NOTES: This is the first time since 2004 when Michael Parker (Coach of the Year), Matt Smith (Freshman of the Year) and Randi Patterson (Player of the Year) were named award winners that UNCG swept the major conference awards … Goalkeeper of the Year was not established until 2014 … Collomb becomes the sixth Spartan in program history and first since Casey Penland in 2019 to earn SoCon Player of the Year honors.
 
UNCG hosts Belmont or ETSU on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
