LYNCHBURG, Va. - UNCG track completes day one of the 7th Annual Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational this Friday, competing in the meet for the fourth consecutive year. Junior Thomas Knepshield turned in one of the better Spartan 5000m indoor times of the past decade, earning the top mark for any college-attached runner in the event. 

The afternoon got started with the men's and women's mile, where freshman runner Shay Soukup crossed the finish line in 5:17.84 in her debut running in blue and gold. On the men's side in the same event Nicholas Thoma tallied a new personal record of 4:33.07.

The Spartans' short day finished during the 5000m where Thomas Knepshield turned in a new career best while running a time of 14:54.21. His pace finished runner-up in the event but was the top mark among college-attached competitors. Knepshield's time ranks eighth for UNCG in the past decade of competition. Paul Katam, Mike Koech and Joey Thompson are the only UNCG runners to tally better marks since 2010.
