HIGH POINT, N.C. - Dylan Christopher writes himself into the UNCG track record books this Thursday with a 30:27.52 in the High Point VertKlasse Meeting 10,000m. His finish set a new personal record and ranks ninth for the Spartans in the last decade, as three UNCG runners finished in the top-10 of the event.
The Spartans started this week's meet in the 1500m, where
Ariana Garcia turned in a new personal record in the event. The senior crossed the finish line in 4:53.02, while on the men's side,
Colin Alexander turned in a Spartan-best 4:03.44 to take sixth in the field.
Only the hosting Panthers placed as many runners in the top-10 of the 10,000m as UNCG did, with
Dylan Christopher,
Michael Zapherson and
Thomas Knepshield taking second, fifth and 10th in the event respectively.
Christopher's personal best time of 30:27.52 put him among the top-10 Spartan runners to compete in the event since 2010, and ranks fourth in the SoCon so far this year. Zapherson and Knepshield turned in times of 31:24.50 and 31:52.21 respectively, with the pair competing in the outdoor event for the first time in their careers.
The Spartans will compete in the three more events in the second and final day of the VertKlasse, starting with the women's 400m at 1:50 p.m. UNCG will have athletes in both 800m races, with the women starting at 3:55 p.m. and the men racing shortly after at 4:15 p.m.
