GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team wraps up its regular season non-conference play tomorrow, Sunday, September 19, 2021, with a road trip to Lynchburg, Virginia to face Liberty University with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- Senior Nicole Souply leads the Spartans with two goals and four points, while junior Maddy Gilhool follows with one goal and one assist for three points.
- Senior Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper returns in net for UNCG, as she was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for back-to-back shutouts to open the season and then earned the honor again last week for two more clean sheets.
- Among the conference, Tyler-Cooper is ranked first in saves per game (6.11) and shutouts (4), second in saves (49), third in save percentage (.907), and fifth in goals against average (0.69).
- UNCG was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Poll.
- Senior Kayla Campbell was the lone Spartan to be named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-SoCon team. She led all defenders in 2019 with five goals, while being a force on the back line helping UNCG to six clean sheets.
SPARTANS' LAST TIME OUT
- On a night when the UNC Greensboro women's soccer team recognized its 10 seniors, the Spartans recorded their fourth shutout of the season on Sunday. UNCG and Campbell University played to a 0-0 double overtime draw in non-conference play at the UNCG Soccer Stadium.
- The Spartans' senior goalkeeper, Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper, in the 64th minute, tallied her 300th-career save off a shot by Campbell's Amber Liston. She totaled six in the game to move her up to third in UNCG record books with 304 career saves. Tyler-Cooper is also third in career shutouts with 22.
- This was the fourth overtime game for the Spartans this season.
SCOUTING LIBERTY
- Liberty remains unbeaten in its last four contests.
- Sophomore Meredith King leads the Lady Flames with three goals and two assists for eight points.
- Senior Kasey Jamieson and sophomore Maddy Oliver follow with two goals each.
- Senior Randi Palacios has seen the most time in net playing in six games, giving up eight goals with 19 saves and one shutout.
- The Lady Flames were picked to finish fourth in the ASUN Conference.
- Liberty is coming off its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance, winning the 2021 Spring ASUN Tournament.
LADY FLAMES' LAST TIME OUT
- Liberty remains unbeaten in its last four contests as the Lady Flames and UNC Wilmington tied, 0-0, Thursday night at Osborne Stadium. Liberty is now 4-3-1 on the season.
- Randi Palacios recorded her fourth-straight shutout this season and 14th of her career, while tallying six saves.
UP NEXT
- UNCG opens SoCon play next Friday, September 24 as they travel to Tennessee to face the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a 6:00 p.m. kick off, followed by a 1:00 p.m. game at Samford University on Sunday, September 26 in Birmingham, Alabama.
- Liberty also begins conference play next week as they host Jacksonville State University on Thursday, September 23.
