GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) freshman defender
Joey Skinner was named the ECNL National Player of the Year for the under 18/19 age group. The honor was announced Monday.
It's the latest accolade for Skinner, who was named the ECNL Mid-Atlantic Conference Player of the Year for the under-18/19 division earlier this month.
Skinner is third on the Spartans with seven points. He has scored two goals and a team leading three assists. He had two assists in UNCG's most recent victory, a 5-0 decision over Radford this past Saturday.
During the summer, Skinner helped his team win the under-19 national championship. He was also named to the All-Conference team of the Mid-Atlantic Region. In starting every match, Skinner scored 11 goals and had eight assists in 22 games. He also had one hat-trick.
"Joey is very deserving of this award," UNCG head men's soccer coach
Chris Rich said. "He had an incredible senior year with Charlotte Independence, which was capped off by winning a national championship. We are extremely excited to have a player of Joey's caliber here at UNCG. He is off to a great start, and we are very excited to see what he can accomplish here in Greensboro."
The Spartans battle second-ranked Clemson Tuesday at 7 p.m.
