It's Official: Miller Signs With Minnesota

Minnesota Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas announced the team has signed guard and UNC Greensboro (UNCG) alum Isaiah Miller. Per team policy, terms of the agreement were not released.

Miller, 22, played in all five games for the 2021 Timberwolves Summer League team, averaging 7.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.6 steals in 16.2 minutes per game. Miller averaged 14.9 points on 47.4% shooting, 4.8 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game during his four-year career at UNC Greensboro.

He described the adjustment from UNCG to the NBA.

Miller"The biggest adjustment for me was the speed of the game," Miller said. "I had to adjust to that right away. It's just bigger guys. At the end of the day, we're all competing. Stepping on the court for the first during summer league was amazing. I had some jitters at first, but once I got back into the game, I knew I belonged here and that I could compete with these guys."

In Miller's final season with the Spartans, he was named SoCon Player of the Year and SoCon Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the only men's basketball player in SoCon history to be named both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in consecutive seasons.

The Newark, N.J.-native led the SoCon in scoring this season with 19.2 points per game and steals with 2.6 per game and finished eighth in rebounding at 6.8 per contest, helping the Spartans win SoCon regular-season and tournament titles and earning Most Outstanding Player honors at the 2021 Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championship presented by General Shale Brick.

With Miller leading the way during the 2020-21 season, UNCG won 21 contests and finished 12th in the final Mid-Major Top 25 poll.

Miller helped UNCG win 100 games during his four-year career – including a program-record 29 in 2018-19, when the Spartans were the No. 1 seed in the National Invitation Tournament – and finished second in SoCon history with 315 career steals and third in UNCG history with 1,967 career points.

He was part of four 20-win seasons and became the first player to lead the league in scoring and win the tournament championship in the same season since Davidson's Steph Curry in 2007-08.

"UNCG prepared me a lot for this opportunity," Miller said. "UNCG taught me the value of hard work. I learned to be smart about how I play and go about my day. UNCG put me in a great place and mindset to come here, compete and represent my school."

Miller made his professional debut one to remember with a vicious dunk that shook Las Vegas' Cox Pavilion to its core on August 9.

With time ticking away at the end of the third quarter, Miller went viral on social media after taking a pass, driving baseline, soaring into the air with his right-arm cocked back and finishing with a wicked dunk.

Miller's flush was the centerpiece of a solid all-around performance in which he scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds in 13 minutes of action during a 91-89 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. He also distinguished himself on the defensive end with a pair of steals.

In addition to Miller, the Timberwolves also signed forward Brian Bowen II, guard Matt Lewis and forward Chris Silva.
