GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team opens Southern Conference (SoCon) play with a road trip to battle the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on Friday, September 24 with a start time of 6:00 p.m.

ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • Senior Nicole Souply leads the Spartans with two goals and four points, while junior Maddy Gilhool follows with one goal and one assist for three points.
  • Senior Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper returns in net for UNCG, as she was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for back-to-back shutouts to open the season and then earned the honor again two weeks ago for two more clean sheets.  
  • Among the conference, Tyler-Cooper is ranked first in saves per game (6.62) and shutouts (4), second in saves (53), fifth in save percentage (.883), and sixth in goals against average (0.85).
  • UNCG was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Poll.
  • Senior Kayla Campbell was the lone Spartan to be named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-SoCon team. She led all defenders in 2019 with five goals, while being a force on the back line helping UNCG to six clean sheets. 
SPARTANS' LAST TIME OUT
  • In its final non-conference game before Southern Conference play, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team held strong in the first half, but Liberty University scored two second half goals securing the victory Sunday afternoon at Osborne Stadium.
  • Senior goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper registered four saves.
  • Liberty outshot UNCG 14-8 and registered seven corner kicks to the Spartans' one.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
  • The Mocs, with a 3-5-1 record, have registered three shutouts this season.
  • Samantha Shaw leads Chattanooga with four goals and one assist for nine points.
  • Three Mocs have tallied one goal each, as Mackenzie Smith is second on the team with five points, including three assists.
  • Abbey Saddler has played the most in net for the Mocs allowing 12 goals with a 1.49 goals against average tallying 44 saves.
  • Chattanooga was picked to finish fourth in the conference, while Maggie Shaw, who was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Year last season, was named to the Southern Conference Coaches Preseason All-Conference Team.
MOCS' LAST TIME OUT
  • After an hour and 15-minute delay due to drenching rains Sunday afternoon, the Chattanooga women's soccer team battled Morehead State (2-5-2) to a double-overtime scoreless draw at the UTC Sports Complex.
  • The Eagles edged Chattanooga 14-13 on shots with a 7-6 shots on goal advantage and the two teams were nearly identical in possession. Mocs keeper Abbey Saddler corralled all seven marks by Morehead State while the Eagles' goalkeeper had six saves.
UP NEXT
  • UNCG will travel to Birmingham, Alabama to face Samford in a Sunday afternoon battle with kick off at 1pm at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium.
  • Chattanooga will host VMI on Sunday.
