GREENSBORO, N.C. – The awards continue to pile up for
Theo Collomb of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer program.
This time, he's happy to share recognition with his sophomore teammate
Emmanuel Hagan.
The Spartan dynamic duo swept the Southern Conference weekly awards Tuesday afternoon. Collomb earned Offensive Player of the Week honors. Hagan was named Defensive Player of the Week.
They combined to help UNCG enjoy one of its most memorable weeks in program history. The Spartans, ranked fifth in the United Soccer Coaches South region poll, stretched their unbeaten streak to five matches by beating No. 2 Clemson and VMI last week.
Hagan anchored a strong defensive unit for the Spartans by making timely clears, placing precision passes to his teammates, and organizing his team. UNCG allowed one goal last week and held a Clemson team that entered the match leading the nation in goals scored to one on six shots.
The Accra, Ghana native also assisted UNCG in grabbing its fifth clean sheet of the season in its win over VMI.
For Collomb, this is his third major recognition in two days as he was named the National Player of the Week by College Soccer News and TopDrawerSoccer.com. A preseason All-SoCon selection, this is Collomb's second Player of the Week honor for his career.
The Clermont, France native scored two beautiful goals to lead UNCG to a pulsating 3-1 victory over second-ranked Clemson on Sept. 21, one of the best wins in the history of the program.
It was Clemson's first loss of the season. Clemson entered the game with six consecutive shutouts and one goal allowed.
He ended the week by notching his first career hat-trick during a 7-0 victory over VMI in the Spartans' Southern Conference opener last Saturday with goals in the fourth, 15th and 40th minutes. For good measure, Collomb assisted on goals from
Maycol Reyes in the seventh minute and
Micah Albert in the 17th minute.
Collomb leads the nation in goals per game (1.38), points per game (3.12), goals (11), and points (25) and is third in the NCAA in game-winning goals (3) and eighth in shots per game (2.25). He has registered 19 career goals during his time as a Spartan.
The Spartans have outscored their opponents, 21-1, during their recent unbeaten stretch.
As a team, the Spartan Scoring Machine leads the country in scoring offense (3.11) and goals (28). The Spartans are second in points (82), points per game (9.11), and goal differential (20). UNCG is third in assists (26) and assists per game (2.89).
The Spartans are also eighth in shots on goal per contest (7.44) and have scored three or more goals in a match five times this season.
UNCG has a busy week ahead with a pair of tough matches on the road at Coastal Carolina Tuesday and home against Mercer on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.
