The Catamounts responded with a 5-1 rally that forced a UNCG timeout. The Spartans took advantage of the timeout, countering Western Carolina with a 5-1 run of their own to narrow the Catamounts' advantage, 12-11. UNCG kept the set close as
Hannah Knier's kill kept the Spartans within distance, down just two points, 15-13. Western Carolina responded with a four-point rally and later regained a six-point lead, 21-15, by starting a 6-1 rally that gave Western Carolina the second set.
The Spartans roared to a 9-3 lead to start the third set on the power of a 7-1 rally which included five-straight points. The Catamounts scored four of the next five points to cut their deficit down to three. A
Sierra Herndon kill helped UNCG regain a five-point lead, 14-9. Western Carolina countered with a 4-1 rally to cut down the lead, 15-13, and force a UNCG timeout. The Catamounts continued their run with four-straight points out of the timeout and grew their rally as large as 12-2 to claim a 21-16 advantage.
