Volleyball Drops Four-Set Decision to Chattanooga

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team took the first set, before Chattanooga came back for a 3-1-win Saturday afternoon in Fleming Gym in Southern Conference (SoCon) play.  
 
The Spartans won the first set, 25-19, before the Mocs won 25-14, 25-22, and 26-24.  
 
Five of UNCG's eight service aces came in the first set as the Spartans had the lead for all but one point, 2-1, in the frame. UNCG's largest lead of six, 25-19, was match point. Elayne Grisbee had two of the five aces.
 
After the Spartans tied the second set at four, Chattanooga went on a 7-0 run, for an 11-4 advantage. The Mocs quickly saw a 10-point lead, 20-10, and UNCG went on a 4-1 run to come within seven, 21-14, but it was not enough as Chattanooga scored five-straight points for a 25-14 win.
 
The Mocs saw its highest hitting percentage in the third frame averaging 0.243, compared to the Spartans' 0.194 hitting clip. UNCG had the lead twice in the frame, 7-5, but Chattanooga had the lead the rest of the time. The Spartans went on an 8-2 run tying the set at 22, before the Mocs scored three-straight points for a 25-22 win.
 
UNCG had a 4-0 lead to begin the fourth set and Chattanooga came back to tie it at five. There were nine tied scores in the frame, including one at 24, before the Mocs sealed the deal with a 26-24 final score.
 
By The Numbers
  • Taylor Robertson paced the Spartans with 14 kills and 12 digs, her sixth double-double of the season. 
  • Gabriela McHugh tallied 41 assists for a match high.
  • Daija Jackson had 12 kills and a team-high five blocks.
  • Ella Voegele led the match with 23 digs. This was her 16th match this season with double-digit digs.
  • Mya Wood was the other Spartan with double-digit digs, recording 15 digs.
