GREENSBORO, N.C.- Seniors
Austin Parsley and
Alex Hoppe pitched for a combined five-hit shutout in the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team's 5-0 win over the Appalachian State Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon.
Parsley earned his second start on the mound for the Spartans. The Mountaineers loaded the bases early with back-to-back hits and a walk. Parsley struck out two batters. The final out came from a diving over the back catch from
Zack Budzik.
Kennedy Jones and
Pres Cavenaugh got the bottom of the first started with back-to-back singles.
Greg Hardison's second RBI of the season gave the Blue and Gold the early 1-0 lead. Jones got on base again in the bottom of the third. He advanced to third on a double down the right-field line by Cavenaugh.
Hogan Windish's single to the shortstop and Hardison's single to center gave UNCG a 3-0 lead.
The Spartans wouldn't score again until the bottom of the seventh inning. Jones hit his first career home run over the left-field wall to tack on two more, 5-0.
