UNCG Accepts Bid To CBI Postseason Tournament

CBI Bracket Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C.
– The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team will be competing in a postseason tournament for the second straight season as the program accepted a bid to compete in the 2022 Roman College Basketball Invitational (CBI).

UNCG was seeded 7th and will open against No. 10 seed Boston University on Sunday, March 20 at 5:00 p.m.

The tournament will be held from March 19-23 at the Daytona Beach Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida. The CBI, which has been around since 2008, is a 16-team single-elimination tournament.

"We are honored to be invited to play in the postseason, and thankful to the CBI for recognizing us," first-year UNCG head men's basketball coach Mike Jones said. "We are excited for the opportunity to continue to compete with this group of young men who came together as a team throughout the season. This tournament is a great opportunity for us to compete for a championship at the end of the year and provide valuable experience for a core group that can return for us next year."

UNCG won 17 games. Among some of the Spartan notable victories this season were triumphs against Coppin State, Furman, Chattanooga, Vermont, UMBC, and Northern Kentucky, programs that competed for their conference tournament championships.

UNCG led the Southern Conference in rebounding margin (+5.4), was second in scoring defense (64.8 points allowed per game), and field goal percentage defense (41.8). It held 13 opponents below 60 points.

FloHoops will stream the CBI first round and quarterfinal rounds and ESPN2 will televise the semifinals and championship games.

This will be UNCG's second trip to the CBI in program history. The Spartans beat Houston Baptist, 69-65, and lost to Ohio, 72-67, in 2016. Overall, this will be the ninth postseason appearance for UNCG in its Division I era.

Tickets for the tournament can be purchased here: https://www.ticketmaster.com/college-basketball-invitational-tickets/artist/1845977. They also may also be purchased at the Ocean Center box office on CBI game days.
