GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team's last inning efforts were not enough as they fell to the High Point Panthers, 9-8, on Tuesday night.
The Spartans were down by four heading into the bottom of the ninth. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out.
Greg Hardison scored on a wild pitch that also advanced
Mitchell Smith and
GC Jarman to scoring positions.
Matt Kemp doubled to left field to bring UNCG within one, 9-8, for the second time tonight.
The Spartans jumped on the board first with
Pres Cavenaugh stealing home while Hardison stole second.
A double from Jarman scored Hardison and Cavenaugh to tie the game at three in the bottom of the third inning.
High Point took a three-run lead in the top of the sixth.
Kemp hit a two-run homer over the left-field wall, his first of the season, in the bottom of the sixth cut the Spartans deficit to one run, 6-5.
UNCG sent eight pitchers to the mound this evening. RHP
Camden Noble earned his first start of the season and pitched 1.2 innings. The Spartans sent
Hunter Shuey,
Caleb Freeman,
Price King,
KJ Wells,
Alex Hoppe,
Jake Wolf, and
Wesley Buck to the mound as well.
Shuey led the team with five strikeouts and Hoppe followed with four.

UNCG will head to Davidson for a game against the Wildcats on Friday before welcoming them to Greensboro on Saturday. The two squads will close out the series with a neutral site game at Truist Park Stadium in High Point on Sunday.
