Southern Conference announces softball weekly honors
GREENSBORO, N.C. – After sweeping Mercer this weekend to begin Southern Conference (SoCon) play, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team earned a sweep of SoCon weekly awards.
Junior
Maycin Brown was named Player of the Week, while classmate
Morgan Scott was tabbed as the Pitcher of the Week.
This is Scott's second honor this season. Brown was previously named SoCon Player of the Month for February.
This is the sixth-straight week of recognition for the Spartans this season.

The duo helped UNCG to three wins over Mercer, all only playing five innings. Saturday's doubleheader saw five homers with a score of 15-4, followed by five more bombs with a score of 12-4. On Sunday, the Spartans dominated, winning 19-1 and had a program-best eight homers, tying an NCAA and program-best five in one inning.
Brown hit a perfect 8-for-8 at the plate, with six RBI and eight runs over three games. Six of her eight hits went for extra bases, as she complimented her 1.000 batting average with a 2.500 slugging percentage. She hit a sacrifice fly and was hit by a pitch for a .900 on-base percentage. In Sunday's game, she fell a triple short of the cycle, scoring three times on the day.
Brown started and played at third base all weekend making two putouts with one assist.
She is currently ranked in the top 10 in 12 conference categories: first in batting average (.435) and total bases (69), second in hits (40) and doubles (11), third in slugging percentage (.750), on-base percentage (.518), and runs scored (24), fourth in total plate appearances (110), sixth in walks (13), seventh in assists (51), eighth in at bats (92), and ninth in hit by pitch (4).

Scott made two appearances this weekend tossing three innings and giving up five hits and one run for her 11
th win of the season. She struck out six in the 15-4 run-ruled game. In the Sunday matchup, Scott tossed her 13th complete game of the season, striking out seven, while giving up just three hits and one run in a 19-1 five-inning game. This was her 12
th win of the season.
Scott leads the conference in innings pitched (117.2), batters struck out (119), batters struck out looking (42), wins (12), appearances (20), and games started (16). She is also fourth in opposing batter avg. (.246) and sixth in ERA (2.97).
