Spartan’s Late Surge Falls Short in Extra Innings

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Dallas Callahan was a home run away from the cycle in the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team's 5-4 loss in extra innings on Friday night to the Mercer Bears.

Callahan's three hits were also a career-high as a Spartan.

Mitchell Smith's 12th double of the season was also an RBI to give the Spartans the early lead in the first inning.

The Bears took the lead with two runs in the second and one in the third and fourth inning to make it a 4-1 game.

The Spartans scored three runs in the seventh inning to tie the game at four. Callahan hit his first triple of the season to get in scoring position. An error by the Bears allowed GC Jarman and Rowan Watt to reach first and second and Callahan to score.

Kennedy Jones' double down the left-field line scored Jarman and Watt to tie the game and force extra innings.

Austin Parsley pitched 6.0 innings and struck out four of his 29 batters faced. Price King and Alex Hoppe also made an appearance. Hoppe struck out three batters bringing his season total to 62.
