CULLOWHEE, N.C. – In another intense game between the reigning 2021 Southern Conference (SoCon) champions, the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team and the runner ups Western Carolina, the Spartans successfully swept their second SoCon opponent with a 9-2 victory.
In the 12
th game this season with double-digit hits, racking up 10, UNCG has now won nine-straight games. The Spartans have now won 11-straight regular season games against SoCon opponents dating back to the 2021 season.
The Spartans have also won 14-straight overall games against conference foes, including postseason games.
Four different Spartans contributed home runs, including
Jessie Shipley,
Jordan Gontram,
Delaney Cumbie, and
Maycin Brown. The Blue & Gold totaled 10 homers over the Catamounts this weekend for the sweep.

Morgan Scott was unbeatable, giving up just two runs on five hits. She struck out 10 batters, for her fourth game this season with double-digit strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans took the lead in the second inning with a two-run homer from Shipley to left field.
- Gontram blasted her own long ball to center field after Makenna Matthijs walked and Blayke Batten singled to the five-six hole.
- The Spartans were up 5-1 and added two more insurance runs in the fifth on Samantha Lagrama's two-run, two-out double off the left field fence extended the lead to 7-1.
- The Catamounts cut the deficit to 7-2 on a throwing error to score Samantha Reele from second.
- UNCG hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the sixth from Cumbie and Brown for its largest lead of the game, 9-2.

- Brown crushed her seventh home run of the season, 17th of her career.

The Blue Devils are currently ranked No. 8 in D1 Softball Top 25 and Softball America, No. 10 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25, and No. 14 in the USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Coaches Poll.
