CHARLESTON, S.C.- Senior RHP
Austin Parsley pitched the first complete-game shutout of his career in the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team's 4-0 win over The Citadel Bulldogs to seal the series win on Saturday.
Parsley allowed one hit in the first inning, walked one in the third, and then retired 18 straight batters in the win. This was the second shutout of the season for the Spartans. The first was against App State with Parsley and
Alex Hoppe combining for the shutout.
How does it feel to pitch your first complete game in your career?
Not much to really to say other than that it felt really amazing to accomplish.
What was your mindset like throughout the game?
My mindset was just to attack the hitters with the fastballs and trust the guys behind to make plays. Give them a chance to jump on the ball and score runs.
Did you realize you were in the position to pitch a complete shutout game the later it went? Did that change your mindset?
Yeah, I realized that was in the position to pitch a complete game due to having a low pitch count. No, I never changed my mindset, just stuck to the original plan of going at the hitter and having the defense make plays.
What was the energy like embracing your teammates after the final out?
It was amazing just to experience it with everyone because it was a team effort and I feel the energy from everyone wanting to finish this game.
