SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) senior
Greg Hardison recorded his first career collegiate hit against the University of Tennessee in his third career at-bat in 2018.
With a swing that sings, Hardison hasn't stopped hitting.
At precisely 8:42 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, Hardison collected his 200th career hit leading off the ninth inning during UNCG's 7-0 setback to host Wofford in its Southern Conference baseball opener at Russell C. King Field Friday night.
It's an accomplishment to be savored because hitting a baseball traveling fast with different spins is one of the hardest things to do in the world. Hardison has made it look easy. In addition to leading UNCG with 41 hits this season, Hardison has also reached base in 10 consecutive games.
"I have worked hard to be the best hitter I can be and it's a cool milestone to achieve," Hardison said. "A special thanks to coach Starbuck and all who have helped me from a hitting standpoint."
UNCG's three-game winning streak ended despite the stellar defensive gems from freshman
Ethan McKay and junior
Dallas Callahan during the contest. McKay had a nice diving catch in right field to start the fourth inning. Callahan showcased his arm by throwing out a would-be base stealer to close the sixth inning.
Records
UNCG 14-16 overall, 0-1 SoCon
Wofford 22-9, 1-0
