GREENVILLE, S.C.- Pres Cavenaugh's bottom of the ninth heroics pushes the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team past The Citadel, 7-6, in its first game of the 2022 Southern Conference Tournament on Wednesday night.
This was Cavenaugh's second walk-off in his career. The first was the Spartan's combined no-hitter against Fairfield in 2020.
SPARTANS INTERVIEWING SPARTANS WITH BRADLEY BOTT
Bott: "Gritty win for the Spartans today. Take me through the win."
Cavenaugh: "We were down 6-3 going into the ninth inning. We were a little down, I'm not going to lie. GC [Jarman] gets on, [Zack] Budzik gets a hit, Caleb [Freeman] gets a walk and then we set the table for the top of the lineup. People came through when we needed them to."
Bott: "Huge walk-off hit. I've been a part of two walk-offs here at UNCG, both by
Pres Cavenaugh. Talk to me about that feeling."
Cavenaugh: "Like I said earlier, I'm at a loss for words. I don't even know what to say. I'm just glad we won."

FINAL WORDS FROM COACH GODWIN
"I just told our kids going into the bottom of the ninth inning, we haven't walked-off all year and I knew we were due and we could definitely score three runs with our offense. I give a lot of credit to Jarman for taking a hit by pitch, and Budzik for coming up with a hit. The seven, eight, and nine spots had great at-bats to set the table for that. Kennedy and Pres, who were both hitless up to that point, delivered in a big way. It was awesome. It's the kind of thing you have to have to advance and win. I'm really proud of our kids and how they battled back."
