GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team started the weekend off strong with a dominant 12-1 win over the VMI Keydets on Friday afternoon.
Hogan Windish went 3-for-5 from the plate, just a triple shy of the cycle, and batted in four RBIs to lead the Spartans. Three of his four RBIs came off a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give UNCG a 6-1 lead.
Windish's homerun is the 10
th of the season. This marks the second consecutive season with 10 or more home runs for the Jefferson, N.C., native.

Windish: "It felt good. I had a 3-2 count, and I was trying to battle up. He left a good pitch over the plate, and I just connected well with it.
Bott: "What are you taking away from today up to the plate tomorrow?"
Windish: "Just the same approach. Hit the ball hard and see my pitch."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- VMI was the first to score in the third inning.
- The Spartans answered with two runs in the third off Ethan McKay's double.
- Dallas Callahan's single to bring McKay across the plate gave UNCG the 3-1 lead in the third.
- The Spartans scored five in the fourth, three from Windish's home run.
- Greg Hardison came home on a fielder's choice.
- Callahan hit a sacrifice fly to score Mitchell Smith.
- Three more runs came in the fifth. Windish's double scored Kennedy Jones.
- Smith's ground-rule double brought Windish across the plate for the 10th run for UNCG.
- Pres Cavenaugh's single to center field brought Smith home.
- Callahan scored the Spartan's final run off a sacrifice fly from Zack Budzik.

"I thought our kids came out and performed well. We got good pitching and timely hits, Hogan had a big blow to put us up 6-1. I thought we played well."

"We condition our kids to do whatever it takes. We get in a tournament setting and you might have to play at nine or 10 in the morning. They are pretty resilient and they are good at doing whatever we ask them to do."
