Men’s Golf Finishes Second at Bearcat Invitational

CINCINNATI, OHIO - Noah Connor's top-five finish carried the UNCG Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team to a second-place finish after the final round of the University of Cincinnati's 54-hole Bearcat Invitational Tuesday morning and afternoon.
 
The Spartans' posted a two-over-par (286) in the final round on the par-71, 7,279-yard course on a day where low scores were few. UNCG's six-under-par (846) 54-hole tally stood just one stroke behind the host Cincinnati for the tournament leader while finishing one stroke ahead of Louisville who finished third. The Spartans posted the fourth-lowest final round score.
 
Connor carded three birdies throughout the round and one eagle on the par-five, 558-yard eighth hole leading to a two-under-par (69) finish. The senior posted a five-under-par (208) 54-hole score to finish in a tie for fourth just two shots off the lead.
 
Nick Lyerly also posted a two-under-par (69) final-round effort. Lyerly carded only one bogey and earned a birdie on three holes, all par fours. Starting his round on the fourth hole, the graduate student finished his round with a birdie on the 408-yard third hole in a bid to catch the host Bearcats.
 
Competing as an individual, Tommy Lamb cracked the top-ten individuals with an even-par (71) to finish the tournament two-under-par (211). Lamb's score was the lowest among individual-only participants and finished in a five-way tie for eighth place. The junior carded a birdie on the par-four, 506-yard seventh hole and repeated his work on the par-five, 558-yard eighth.
 
Inside the Scorecard
  • As scores on the difficult par-three holes went up, the Spartans stayed steady, posting an 11-over-par effort which stood second in the field.
  • The Spartans finished in a tie for second in par-five scoring, posting a 16-under-par effort.
  • UNCG was also second on par fours at eight-over-par, only one of two teams to post a single-digit number over par.
  • Lamb's efforts on par fives stood in a tie for third at six-under-par.
  • Lamb also stood even par on all par fours, good for eighth in the field.
  • Lyerly's 39 pars led the field. Connor Brown stood in a tie for second place in pars with 38.
