SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's cross country team and sophomore
Luke Ward of the men's cross country team competed at the 2023 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Cross Country Championships on Friday morning at the Roger Milliken Center, hosted by USC Upstate.
WOMEN
The women's team finished 30
th out of 34 teams at the Championship totaling 834 points. The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Furman was the runner up with 82 points, while NC State won its seventh-straight Regional Title with 52 points. The Wolfpack's Katelyn Tuohy clocked in the best time of the race at 19:29.8, setting a new course record and earning her second-straight individual Regional Title.
Senior
Jenna Reiter, in her third time at a NCAA Regional, was the first Spartan to cross the finish line clocking in a time of 22:04.7 in the six-kilometer race. She finished 125
th out of 243 competitors and placed higher than last year's 146
th mark. In her second NCAA Regional appearance, sophomore
Vicky Sosa followed in 143
rd overall with a time of 22:30.7. Sosa bested her 174
th place from last season's NCAA Regional.
Senior
Shay Soukup, in her second NCAA Regional, placed 184
th with a time of 23:11.9, while junior
Camille Carlson took home 192
nd, finishing the race in 23:34.8 in her third NCAA appearance.
Juniors
Bella Manfre (223
rd),
Emma Berrier (231
st), and
Laila Burk (232
nd) rounded out the Spartan team. This was Manfre's third regional, Berrier's first appearance, and Burk's second NCAA appearance.
MEN
In his second appearance at an NCAA Regional, sophomore
Luke Ward placed 127
th overall. He ran a time of 31:51.5 in the 10-kilometer race. He bested his mark from last year when he finished 148
th at 33:19.3.
