SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's cross country team competed in the Upstate Invitational in Spartanburg, South Carolina, on Saturday morning held at the Roger Milliken Center.
The Spartans placed seventh out of 23 teams totaling 242 points. Jacksonville State took the team title with 35 points and Viola Jepleting from the Gamecocks earned the individual championship. The College of Charleston placed second with 63 points and UNC Asheville rounded out the top three teams with 79 points.
Three other teams from The Southern Conference (SoCon) also competed in the invitational. Western Carolina finished fourth overall with 156 points, Wofford totaled 420 points taking 15
th place and The Citadel was 18
th with 539 points.
Freshman
Sarah Fassinger paced the Spartans, placing 35
th out of 217 competitors in the five-kilometer race, clocking in a time of 18:40.5. Classmate
Camryn Oates followed in 51
st place with her time of 18:57.7. Graduate student
Emma Berrier also finished in under 19 minutes, taking home 57
th place with a time of 18:59.9.
Graduate student
Sierra Collins crossed the finish line in 19:04.9, good for 60
th place. Junior
Tenley Douglass, in her first race of the season, finished 67
th with a time of 19:15.7.

UNCG will take some time off before preparing for the 2025 SoCon Championships, which will take place on Nov. 1 at Tryon Equestrian Center in Mill Spring, North Carolina. The women's five-kilometer race is set to begin at 10:00 a.m., while the men's eight-kilometer race will start at 10:45 a.m.
