Three from Track Earn SoCon All-Freshman Honors, Two Land on Podium at SoCon Indoor Championships

LEXINGTON, VA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track teams sent individuals to the 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by VMI, at the VMI Corps Physical Training Facility.
 
Four Spartans clocked in personal best times, while the men's distance medley relay team and Samuel Barnard earned podium finishes. Logan Ruffner earned All-SoCon Freshman team honors in the mile, Brodie Schneider also earned the recognition but in the 800-meter run and Pierson Guerrant claimed the honor in the 3,000-meter run.
 
Lane Prochaska, Glodi Mvovi, Schneider and Andrew Hamilton competed in the distance medley relay, where seven schools entered a team. The quartet clocked in a time of 10:29.03 finishing third overall.
 
Barnard placed second overall out of 13 competitors in the preliminary round of the 800-meter run with his time of 1:52.90 to qualify for finals. On day two, Barnard maintained his momentum and placed third with a time of 1:52.49 earning a podium finish.
 
Hamilton qualified for the 800-meter final with his eighth-place finish and a time of 1:54.04 on Friday. In the finals, Hamilton moved up to seventh and clocked in a time of 2:03.48. Schneider's personal best time of 1:54.58 in the preliminary round earned him 11th place and a SoCon All-Freshman Team recognition.
 
In the mile, Ruffner clocked in a time of 4:20.21, good for ninth place in the mile and a spot on the SoCon All-Freshman Team. Prochaska finished 10th out of 13 with a personal best time of 4:22.21 in the mile.
 
Pena, who ran in the 3000- and 5000-meter runs, earned two top-10 finishes. In the 3000-meter run, he ran a personal best time of 8:26.89, good for sixth out of 13 competitors. He then double backed and ran the 5000-meter run, taking home 10th place with a time of 15:17.01.
 
Luke Ward earned seventh place with a personal best time of 8:27.02 in the 3000-meter run, while Guerrant collected a SoCon All-Freshman Team honor in the same event with a time of 8:54.39.

The NCAA will announce the field for the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships on NCAA.com on Tuesday. This season's NCAA indoor track and field championships are from Friday, March 14 to Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
