GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team will begin The Southern Conference (SoCon) road slate by traveling to South Carolina this week. The Spartans will face Furman on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Timmons Arena before taking on Wofford on Saturday at 2:00 in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG opened week one of SoCon action with a 73-64 victory over Samford on Thursday night, followed by a 76-59 win over Mercer on Saturday inside Bodford Arena.
- Saturday's victory improves UNCG's win streak to seven and makes the squad 10-1 over the past 11 games.
- The win over the Bears also marks 27-straight home wins for the Spartans and makes the team 38-1 over the past two seasons.
- Saturday's triumph is the third consecutive year that UNCG has started out 2-0 in SoCon play. In addition, it is the fourth-straight win over the Bears.
- Four Spartans reached double-figures against the Bears with Tasia Johnson leading the way with a new career-best 18 points and going a perfect 5-for-5 from behind the arc.
- Jaila Lee followed closely behind with 15 points.
- Ciara Harris added 11 points, while Makiah Asidanya chipped in 10 points.
- After a stellar performance last week, Lee was named SoCon Player of the Week on Tuesday, marking the first SoCon weekly honor in her career and second for the Spartans this season.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- Thursday's contest at Furman marks the first road game for the Spartans since Dec. 10 as the squad just wrapped up a seven-game homestand.
- UNCG and Chattanooga are pacing the SoCon standings after both teams were the only two to go 2-0 in week one of conference action.
- UNCG is leading the SoCon in seven statistical categories: assist/turnover ratio (1.02), assists per game (15.4), rebound margin (6.7), scoring defense (53.3), scoring margin (16.5), three-point percentage (33.3) and turnover margin (4.82).
- The Spartans are ranked in the top-50 nationally in five categories: scoring defense (11th/53.3), three-pointers per game (40th/8.4), scoring margin (44th/16.5), three-point attempts per game (45th/25.1) and turnover margin (45th/4.82).
- Johnson paces the SoCon and is 23rd in the country with a 2.65 assist/turnover ratio.
- Jeni Levine leads the league in field goal attempts (223), points (266) and points per game (15.6).
- Asidanya leads the conference with a 40.2 three-point percentage.
- Rylan Moffitt is second in the SoCon with a 7.5 rebounds per game average.
- Levine (15.6) and Asidanya (11.6) continue to pace the Spartans in double-figure scoring this season.
- UNCG is leading its opponents in several statistical categories: points (69.8-53.3), field goals (24.9-19.2), three-pointers (8.4-4.8), free throws (11.5-10.2), rebounding (38.4-31.6), assists (15.4-9.1), assist/turnover ratio (1.0-0.5), points off turnovers (20.4-11.6), steals (10.3-7.5) and blocks (3.3-2.9).
- Asidanya's career-best 22 points at Auburn this season led her to be named SoCon Player of the Week in the first round of weekly awards on Nov. 11.
- UNCG was voted to finish second with two first-place votes in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Lee and Asidanya were selected to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after both of their stellar performances last season.
- The reigning SoCon Coach of the Year, Head Coach Trina Patterson is in her 10th year with the Blue & Gold this season.
- The 2025-26 roster features five returners and eight newcomers. Four of the newcomers are freshmen, while the other four are transfer students.
- UNCG comes into the 2025-26 season after a historic 2024-25 campaign.
- The Spartans earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 1998. The team defeated Chattanooga, 64-57, in The 2025 SoCon Championship, earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
- The team fell to No. 1 USC in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.
SCOUTING THE PALADINS
- Furman comes into the week with a 9-8 overall record and 1-1 mark in SoCon play.
- The Paladins split week one of conference play with a 72-70 win over ETSU in Johnson City on Thursday, but falling at Chattanooga on Saturday, 66-41.
- The Paladins are leading the SoCon in bench points per game (26.8), blocks per game (4.2), free throw attempts per game (20.88), offensive rebounds per game (15.8), scoring offense (71.5), steals per game (12.5) and turnovers forced per game (22.24).
- The team stands out in the top-50 nationally in six categories: offensive rebounds per game (20th/15.8), turnovers forced per game (20th/22.24), steals per game (21st/12.5), bench points per game (35th/26.8), free throw attempts per game (40th/20.88) and rebounds per game (47th/41.24).
- Chantelle Stuart is pacing the SoCon in assists per game (5.0)
- Clare Coyle is leading the conference in field goal percentage (55.7), field goals (107), rebounds (133), rebounds per game (7.8) and total steals (36).
- Coyle is second in the league in points (254), points per game (14.9) and steals per game (2.12).
- Furman was picked to finish fifth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll ahead of the 2025-26 season.
- Coyle was selected to the 2025-26 Preseason All-SoCon Team.
- Head Coach Pierre Curtis is in his third season at the helm of the Furman women's basketball team and has led the squad to a 40-40 overall mark.
- Furman concluded the 2024-25 season 16-16 overall and 5-9 in the SoCon, falling to Chattanooga, 63-55, in the First Round of the 2025 SoCon Tournament.
SERIES HISTORY VS THE PALADINS
UNCG leads the overall series against Furman at 36-28. The Spartans have won the past seven contests against the Paladins after taking both regular season matchups last year. UNCG defeated Furman, 64-54, in Greenville on Jan. 18, 2025, before earning the 55-51 battle in Greensboro on Feb. 13, 2025.
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
- Wofford currently stands at 7-9 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon.
- The Terriers fell to Chattanooga, 61-42, on Thursday night in McKenzie Arena, but secured a 61-57 win over ETSU on Saturday in Johnson City.
- Wofford is pacing the SoCon in field goal percentage defense (36.3), free throw percentage (77.0), defensive rebounds per game (29.0), rebounds per game (41.56) and three-point percentage defense (27.0).
- The Terriers stand out in the top-50 nationally among five categories: free throw percentage (28th/77.0), defensive rebounds per game (34th/29.0), field goal percentage defense (36th/36.3), rebounds per game (41st/41.56) and three-point percentage defense (44th/27.0).
- Maddie Heiss is leading the nation with a 97.9 free throw percentage.
- Gabby Mundy is second in the SoCon in assist/turnover ratio (1.52) and assists (70).
- Queen Ikhiuwu is second in the league with a 54.1 field goal percentage and 98 total field goals made this season.
- Wofford was picked to finish fourth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Molly Masingale was named to the 2025-26 Preseason All-SoCon Team.
- Head Coach Jimmy Garrity is in his 10th season with the Wofford Terriers and has led the squad to a 147-136 overall mark.
- Wofford wrapped up the 2024-25 season 17-12 overall and 8-6 in the SoCon.
- Wofford will host Western Carolina on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium before welcoming the Spartans on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY VS THE TERRIERS
The Spartans are 43-22 overall against the Terriers. Wofford gave UNCG its only loss in the SoCon last season in Spartanburg, 62-39. However, the Spartans earned the 68-60 meeting in Greensboro on Feb. 15, 2025, before securing the 54-50 win in the SoCon Semifinals on March 7, 2025.

FLEMING GYMNASIUM RENAMED BODFORD ARENA
- On Saturday, Nov. 8, Fleming Gymnasium, home to UNCG volleyball, women's basketball and men's basketball was renamed to Bodford Arena.
- This historic moment for the department was made possible through a transformational $2 million gift from the Bodford family.
- This generous support represents the largest unrestricted gift in the history of UNCG Athletics, as well as the first associated with naming a competitive athletic facility.
- The University is already familiar with the Bodford name - the Bodford Family Speed, Strength & Conditioning Center was dedicated in October 2020.

Fans who attend the women's game (who do not already have a ticket to the men's game) are able to stay for the men's game but must relocate to sections four, five or six in Bodford Arena upon conclusion of women's basketball game.
