Lee & Johnson Named to WBCA 2026 ‘So You Want To Be A Coach’ Graduating Class

WBCA Announces 2026 'So You Want To Be A Coach' Class Graduates
 
ATLANTA, GA. – Jaila Lee and Tasia Johnson of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team were named to the 2026 Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA) 'So You Want To Be A Coach' Graduating Class, the organization announced on Tuesday.

In order to be a part of the program, the nominee must provide a one-page resume, one page personal statement, one page letter of recommendation from the nominee's head coach and a video, 30 seconds or less, by the nominee stating, "Why I Want to Be A Coach."
 
To be eligible, a nominee must have exhausted her final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution or graduated within the past year and be a women's basketball player who wants to pursue a career in coaching. She also must be a credit to the sport of women's basketball both on and off the court and be nominated by her head coach, who must be an active WBCA member, while having a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
 
The 'So You Want To Be A Coach Program' program increases the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increases the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduces female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raises awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.
 
"The WBCA community of coaches each year invests in young, aspiring coaches through the 'So You Want To Be A Coach' program," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "We have high expectations for these graduating student-athletes and the future contributions they will make to the game of women's basketball."
 
Each student-athlete attended the two-day workshop from April 3-4 during the WBCA Convention in Phoenix.
 
"Being selected for the WBCA 'So You Want to Be a Coach' program is an amazing honor and something I'm truly grateful for," said Lee. "This opportunity means a lot to me because it allows me to learn from people who have poured into the game and into others at a high level. I'm excited to expand my knowledge and prepare me for a future in coaching. I hope to take what I learn and use it to give back to the game and serve others, both on and off the court."
 
"Being selected for the WBCA 'So You Want to Be a Coach' program is an exciting opportunity for me as I prepare for a future in coaching," said Johnson. "I loved getting to learn from experienced coaches and gaining insight into leadership and mentorship at the collegiate level."
Lee and Johnson were a part of the historical 2024-25 UNCG women's basketball season that earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 1998. The team defeated Chattanooga, 64-57, in The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Championship, earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

The UNCG women's basketball team concluded the 2025-26 season with a 14-16 overall record. Lee was named the SoCon Player of the Week on Jan. 13 and became the third Spartan ever to receive the Ann Lashley Inspiration Award for her performance on and off the court. Lee concluded the season averaging 8.8 points per game and finished first on the team with a 91.9 free throw percentage. Johnson wrapped the year third on the team with a 1.7 three-pointers per game average and finished second on the squad with a 2.8 assists per game average.
