Women’s Basketball Returns to Greensboro to Host Chattanooga and ETSU

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team
will continue The Southern Conference (SoCon) schedule by hosting Chattanooga on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and ETSU on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. inside Bodford Arena.
 
The contest against the Mocs will be on Nexstar affiliates and ESPN+. In addition, it will be a Holiday Themed Game where the first 100 fans receive a FREE Ugly Christmas Sweater!
 
UNCG's game versus ETSU on Saturday, Jan. 24 will be a part of doubleheader with men's basketball hosting Samford at 5:00 p.m. For the matchup against the Bucs, the first 100 fans receive a FREE Tumbler and it is also Reading Day!
 
Fans who attend the women's game (who do not already have a ticket to the men's game) are able to stay for the men's game but must relocate to sections four, five or six in Bodford Arena upon conclusion of women's basketball game. If fans have a men's ticket, you are allowed to enter the women's game.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG fell in both its contest last week in South Carolina, falling at Furman on Thursday, 69-56, and at Wofford, 61-59, on Saturday.
  • Jaila Lee led the Spartans with back-to-back 17-point games last week, going 15-for-16 at the free throw line.
  • In the team's loss at Wofford, Lee and Tasia Johnson paced the Spartans in double figure scoring with 17 and 14 points, respectively.
  • Lee's 17 points marks her fourth consecutive game in double-figures.
  • Johnson went 4-for-7 from behind the arc on Saturday against the Terriers.
  • Jeni Levine chipped in eight points and led UNCG with four assists and two steals.
  • Rylan Moffitt paced the Spartans with nine boards.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG comes into the week with a 12-7 overall record and 2-2 conference mark, sitting at fifth place in the SoCon standings.
  • The Spartans are currently on a 27-home game winning streak and are 41-1 at home dating back Feb. 18, 2023.
  • The last time UNCG lost at home was on Jan. 25, 2024, against SoCon foe Chattanooga, 73-55.
  • UNCG is leading the SoCon in six statistical categories: assist/turnover ratio (0.98), assists per game (15.0), rebound margin (5.6), scoring defense (54.5), scoring margin (13.9) and three-point percentage (33.1).
  • The Blue & Gold are second in the league in field goal percentage defense (37.3), offensive rebounds per game (13.6), scoring offense (68.5), three-point attempts per game (25.0), three-pointers per game (8.3), turnover margin (3.89), turnovers per game (15.3).
  • The Spartans are ranked in the top-50 nationally in three categories: scoring defense (13th/54.5), three-pointers per game (41st/8.3) and three-point attempts per game (43rd/25.0)
  • Levine paces the SoCon in field goal attempts (245), points (281) and points per game (14.8).
  • Makiah Asidanya leads the conference with a 40.0 three-point percentage.
  • Levine (14.8), Asidanya (11.5) and Lee (10.0) are pacing the Spartans in double-figure scoring this season.
  • UNCG is leading its opponents in several statistical categories: points (68.5-55.5), field goals (24.4-19.5), three-pointers (8.4-5.0), free throws (11.4-10.5), rebounding (37.8-32.2), assists (15.0-9.3), assist/turnover ratio (1.0-0.5), points off turnovers (19.3-11.9), steals (9.8-7.6) and blocks (3.2-2.8).
  • Asidanya's (Nov. 11) and Lee (Jan. 13) have both picked up SoCon Player of the Week accolades for the 2025-26 season.
  • UNCG was voted to finish second with two first-place votes in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Lee and Asidanya were selected to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team after both of their stellar performances last season.
  • The reigning SoCon Coach of the Year, Head Coach Trina Patterson is in her 10th year with the Blue & Gold this season.
  • The 2025-26 roster features five returners and eight newcomers. Four of the newcomers are freshmen, while the other four are transfer students.
  • UNCG comes into the 2025-26 season after a historic 2024-25 campaign.
  • The Spartans earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament last season for the first time since 1998. The team defeated Chattanooga, 64-57, in The 2025 SoCon Championship, earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
  • The team fell to No. 1 USC in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament at the Galen Center in Los Angeles, California.
 SCOUTING THE MOCS
  • Chattanooga comes to Greensboro with an 11-5 overall record and sits atop the SoCon standings at 3-0.
  • The Mocs were picked to finish first in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll with six first-place votes.
  • Caia Elisaldez was named SoCon Preseason Player of the Year, while her and Gianna Corbitt were tabbed to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • The Mocs' 2024-25 season was concluded with an 85-72 loss at Troy in the WNIT Second Round. Chattanooga finished the season 17-15 overall and 9-5 in the SoCon.
  • Chattanooga is currently on a seven-game winning streak after most recently defeating the ETSU Buccaneers, 53-41, in Johnson City.
  • The Mocs are pacing the SoCon in field goal percentage (41.6) and are second in free throw percentage (75.1) and scoring defense (59.0).
  • Elisaldez is leading the conference in assists (77) and minutes per game (34.22) and is second in the league in assists per game (4.8).
  • Corbitt is second in the SoCon with a 7.9 rebounds per game average. She leads the squad from behind the arc, averaging 1.8 three-pointers per game.
  • Corbitt also stands out defensively, pacing the squad with 2.0 steals per game and 0.6 blocks per game.
  • Elisaldez (14.4), Corbitt (14.3) and Kalifa Ford (10.3) are leading the Mocs in double-figures.
  • Head Coach Deandra Schirmer is in her second season at the helm of the Chattanooga women's basketball program.
SERIES HISTORY VS THE MOCS
The Mocs pace the overall series against the Spartans at 51-17. UNCG has won the last three contests against Chattanooga with the most recent matchup being a 64-57 overtime win in the 2025 SoCon Women's Basketball Championship.

 SCOUTING THE BUCS
  • ETSU comes into the week with a 7-11 overall record and 0-3 mark in the SoCon.
  • ETSU was picked to finish third in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Meghan Downing and Carmen Richardson were named to the Preseason All-SoCon Team.
  • The Bucs most recently dropped their matchup with Chattanooga on Saturday, 53-41, in Johnson City.
  • Downing is ranked 17th nationally in blocks per game (2.20) and total blocks (33).
  • She leads ETSU with 7.6 rebounds per game and 2.2 blocks per game.
  • Anala Nelson is pacing the SoCon with 75 free throws and 96 free throw attempts.
  • Nelson also leads ETSU with 10.3 points per game, 2.3 assists per game and 1.4 steals per game.
  • Lucy Hood paces the squad from downtown with 24 three-pointers this season.
  • The Bucs will face Western Carolina on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Cullowhee before coming to Greensboro on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY VS THE BUCS
UNCG holds the slight edge over ETSU in the overall series at 24-22. UNCG took both regular season matchups with ETSU last season with the most recent coming in a 61-56 overtime victory in Johnson City on Feb. 8, 2025.

FLEMING GYMNASIUM RENAMED BODFORD ARENA
  • On Saturday, Nov. 8, Fleming Gymnasium, home to UNCG volleyball, women's basketball and men's basketball was renamed to Bodford Arena.
  • This historic moment for the department was made possible through a transformational $2 million gift from the Bodford family.
  • This generous support represents the largest unrestricted gift in the history of UNCG Athletics, as well as the first associated with naming a competitive athletic facility.  
  • The University is already familiar with the Bodford name - the Bodford Family Speed, Strength & Conditioning Center was dedicated in October 2020.
