Hill & Jefferson with School Records at Liberty Open

LYNCHBURG, VA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track teams competed in the condensed Liberty Open on Friday at Liberty Indoor Track Complex in Lynchburg, Virginia.   

The women saw freshman Ayzia Jefferson break the 200-meter school record for the second time this year. Jefferson bested her time of 25.95 at the Mondo College Invitational with a new personal best time of 25.82. She finished 32nd out of 122 competitors.

Classmate Alana Hill also broke a record. She clocked in a time of 59.78 in the 400-meter run, placing 29th out of 76 competitors. The previous mark of 1:00.38 was set by Maddison McIntyre at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-Off in December.

On the women's side, seven clocked in personal best times, while there were four on the men's side. There were also 13 top 10 marks from the Spartans at the meet.

Junior Khalid Abdullahi impressed the field of 16 in the 3000-meter invite, taking home first place with a time of 8:25.14. Freshman Luke Hühn was the second Spartan to finish the race, finishing in fifth with a time of 8:30.67. Senior Luke Ward also earned a top 10 mark in the event, placing sixth with a time of 8:31.52.

The men's 4x400m, comprised of Glodi Mvovi, Jeremiah Jones, Samuel Barnard and Emery Anderson finished seventh out of 24 teams. The quartet ran a combined time of 3:25.29, which now sits second among the UNCG record book.

Both Mvovi and Jones also ran personal best times in the 800-meter run, placing fourth and fifth, respectively out of 78 competitors. Mvovi finished the race in 1:56.20, while Jones clocked in a time of 1:56.69. Both finished first in their respective heats.

In the women's 3000-meter race, junior Tenley Douglass ran a personal best time of 10:37.71, placing sixth out of 31 competitors. Freshmen Camryn Oates (10:53.57) and Erica Rash (11:00.51) both also clocked in personal best times taking home eighth and 12th, respectively.

Sophomore Hailey Meyers finished fourth out of 15 competitors in the 5000-meter invite crossing the finish line in 18:09.66. Graduate student Sierra Collins placed 10th with her time of 18:36.30.

The Spartans will travel to Mill Spring, North Carolina, to compete in the Tryon College Banked Invitational on Friday, Jan. 30 at the Indoor Complex.
