Anderson Breaks School Record, Spartans Shine at Tryon Banked College Invitational

MILL SPRING, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's and women's track teams competed in the Tryon College Banked Invitational in Mill Spring, North Carolina, on Friday.

The men saw Emery Anderson break the 400-meter UNCG record with his time of 50.92, where he placed 17th out of 81 competitors. His time topped Colyn Todd's previous mark of 51.58 from 2018 at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.

The Spartan men also saw Khalid Abdullahi take home the individual title in the 5000-meter run. He clocked in a personal best time of 14:41.50, which now sits third in UNCG records. The men also finished second, third and fourth in the event. Luke Ward was the next Blue & Gold to place with a time of 14:42.74, followed by Luke Hühn with a time of 14:43.37 and then Pierson Guerrant crossing the finish line in 14:55.75.

Samuel Barnard, Jeremiah Jones, Glodi Mvovi and Abdullahi competed in the 4000-meter distance medley relay, where they finished second out of nine teams. The quartet clocked in a time of 10:21.50, which is now second in UNCG records.

The Spartans also saw three finish in the top-10 of the 1000-meter run. Barnard registered a fourth-place finish out of 46 competitors with a personal best time of 2:30.64. Jones took home seventh with a time of 2:34.32 and Mvovi placed eighth with a personal best time of 2:34.45.

Logan Ruffner's time of 4:21.30 in the mile placed him fifth out of 96 competitors.

Hailey Meyers (2:27.82) and Annalise Crow (2:49.22) ran personal best times in the 800-meter run, finishing 26th and 63rd, respectively, out of 77 competitors.

Tenley Douglass (21st/5:18.72), Vicky Sosa (22nd/5:19.92) and Hailey Meyers (25th/5:21.37) all finished in the top-25 out of 91 competitors of the mile. Douglass clocked in a personal best time.

The Spartans will take some time off before competing in the Sound Invite hosted at the JDL Fast Track on Saturday, Feb. 14 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
