SoCon Announces Men's Golfer of the Week
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kelvin Hernandez of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's golf team has been named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
The Caguas, Puerto Rico, native led the Spartans to a fourth-place finish at the Palmas del Mar Collegiate on Tuesday. He finished on top for UNCG and in a tie for seventh place with a six-under-par (210) behind rounds of 72-69-69. The junior's round scores of 69 marks a new season-best in 18 holes this season. He finished tied for fifth in the field with one eagle and 14 birdies. His 4.33 average on par five holes was tied for second in the field. Hernandez is currently 11
th in the SoCon this season with a 72.40 average through 15 rounds of play.
"I am grateful to be named SoCon Golfer of the Week," said Hernandez. "Moments like this remind me why I fell in love with this game; from learning golf with my dad to competing at the college level and representing where I come from. I'm thankful for my coaches, teammates and everyone who supports me back home and here at UNCG. It's a great start to the spring season. We're just getting started, let's keep working!"
This is Hernandez' second SoCon weekly mention of his career and first of the season for him and the UNCG men's golf team. Hernandez was last named SoCon Golfer of the Week on Sept. 11, 2024, when he notched first collegiate win in the Bryan National Collegiate.
The last time a Spartan was named SoCon Golfer of the Week was on April 2, 2025, when current sophomore
Jake Lewis earned the accolade.
