SoCon Announces Softball Weekly Awards

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team saw junior Brooklyn Shroyer named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Pitcher of the Week, announced on Monday.
 
This is the first weekly award for the Spartans this season.

"It's been incredible to be part of this team and compete with this group," said Shroyer. "This weekend was a great reminder that the work we put in during the fall is translating onto the field." 

Shroyer assisted the Spartans to a 5-0 week at the UNCG Invitational, giving them nine-straight wins.
 
In three appearances and two starts, Shroyer went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, tossing two complete games with 14.0 innings thrown. She had two shutouts with her first save of her collegiate career. She gave up just three hits, three walks and struck out 17 batters keeping them to .071 average.
 
In a 9-0 five-inning victory over Canisius on Friday, Shroyer threw all 5.0 innings, allowing no hits, no runs, two walks and struck out a season-best 10 batters in her second no-hitter of her career. This is the Spartans' first complete game no-hitter since Maddie Spell earned the 3-0 eight-inning win on Feb. 25, 2024, against Kennesaw State in Kennesaw, Georgia, at Bailey Park. This is also the third no-hitter for the Spartans in five years and fourth in nine years. Shroyer's performance was the 15th no-hitter in program history.
 
She also threw all 7.0 innings in a 7-0 victory over Kent State on Saturday, striking out six batters and giving up three hits. She later came in relief during a 3-2 win over Kent State on Sunday where she threw 2.0 innings, striking out one batter with no hits and one walk.

Among the SoCon, Shroyer is leading the conference in victories, strikeouts, shutouts, saves, pitching appearances and innings pitched.

She is nationally ranked in shutouts (2^nd/3), strikeouts (11^th/55), innings pitched (22^nd/46.0), pitching appearance (27^th/11), victories (27^th/5), hits allowed per seven innings (49^th/4.11), complete games (50^th/3), saves (51^st/1), WHIP (58^th/0.93), strikeouts per seven innings (59^th/8.4), earned run average (60^th/1.37) and games started (77^th/6).

UP NEXT
UNCG will travel to compete against in-state foe Queens on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at The Stick Williams Dream Field in Charlotte, North Carolina, at 5:00 p.m.

They will then host the UNCG/Elon Tournament from Feb. 27-March 1.
