Five from Women’s Golf Named to WGCA All-American Scholar Team

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Five from the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team have been named to the 2025-26 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar Team, the association announced Monday.
 
Julia Baeumken, Elle Burnette, Kasey McIlvaine, Sophie Lauture and Chanelle Mwangi were all tabbed to the 2025-26 WGCA All-American Scholar Team.

Burnette and McIlvaine have now earned the feat three times in their careers, Lauture earned the recognition for a second time and Baeumken & Mwangi received the award for the first time.

1,551 women's collegiate golfers were recognized on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team. The criteria for the selection to the All-American Scholar Team is to have an overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, be an amateur and on the team's roster through the conclusion of the team's season and have played in 50% of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated through the team's conference championship.

From The Southern Conference (SoCon), 30 student-athletes appeared on the WGCA All-American Scholar Team, including UNCG (5), ETSU (5), Furman (5), Wofford (4), Chattanooga (3), Samford (3), Western Carolina (3) and Mercer (2).

  • Finished T5th at SoCon Championships 74-78-71 (222)
  • Competed in all 10 events on the season
  • Finished fourth on the team with a 75.59 stroke average
  • Notched a season-best 68 at the Golfweek Fall Challenge on Sept. 8
  • Finished third at the UNCG Collegiate on Oct. 21 with a two-over-par (212)
Elle Burnette
Consumer, Apparel and Retail Studies   
Junior | Wilmington, N.C.
  • 3x WGCA All-American Scholar Team
  • 2x CSC Academic All-District® Team
  • Competed in all 10 events on the season
  • Recorded a season-best 72 in round one of the UNC Challenge Cup on April 4
  • Finished 15th at the Low Country Invitational behind a 14-over-par (230)
Kasey McIlvaine
Accounting  
Junior | Raleigh, N.C.
  • 3x WGCA All-American Scholar Team
  • 2x CSC Academic All-District® Team
  • Finished third on the team with a 75.48 stroke average
  • Competed in all 10 events on the season
  • Carded a fifth-place finish at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational on Feb. 22 with a one-over-par (217)
  • Notched her season-best round score of 71 in the final round of the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational
Sophie Lauture
Biology  
Sophomore | Concord, N.C.
  • 2x WGCA All-American Scholar Team
  • Named to 2025-26 CSC Academic All-District® Team
  • Competed in all 10 events on the season
  • Notched a season-best 70 in the final round of the Golfweek Fall Challenge on Sept. 9
  • Recorded a 16th place finish at the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate on Feb. 3
Chanelle Mwangi
Psychology
Freshman | Nairobi, Kenya
  • Named to the All-SoCon Team & All-Freshman Team
  • Competed in six total events on the season
  • Finished fourth in the SoCon and first on the team with a 73.19 stroke average
  • Carded a fifth-place finish at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational after notching a season-best 67 in the second round

About the WGCA
The WGCA, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Today, the WGCA represents over 750 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
