8/4/2026 2:00:00 PM

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball Head Coach Cody Ellis announced the hiring of Skye Bolt and Hazen Lancaster to his coaching staff on Tuesday.

Skye Bolt – Assistant Coach
Skye Bolt joins the Spartans as an assistant baseball coach, bringing Major League Baseball experience and a strong background in hitting instruction, player development and mentorship. A former professional outfielder and USA Baseball Collegiate National Team member, Bolt will provide a player-centered perspective shaped by nearly a decade competing at the highest levels of the game.

"Skye brings a great deal of experience and knowledge to the program," said Ellis. "His commitment to the game of baseball and his ability to build relationships throughout his career will be a great addition. Skye will work with our outfielders and assist with our hitters. We are excited to welcome Skye and his wife Emily to our family."

Bolt was selected by Oakland Athletics in the fourth round of the 2015 MLB Draft and progressed through every level of professional baseball during his career. He competed in both the Oakland Athletics, Atlanta Braves, Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants organizations, culminating in time at the Major League level. Along the way, he earned three Minor League All-Star selections and was selected to play in the Arizona Fall League with the Mesa Solar Sox.

Prior to beginning his professional career, Bolt was a standout at the University of North Carolina. He was named a Freshman All-American and UNC Athletics' Outstanding Male Newcomer, receiving the Rammy Award in 2013. In 2014, Bolt represented the United States as a member of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team.

Bolt began his coaching career after retiring from professional baseball, serving as a hitting coach and player development instructor with THE HOOD ATL in Atlanta. In that role, he developed individualized plans for hitters focused on mechanics, pitch recognition, confidence and in-game performance, while also leading camps, clinics, private instruction and showcase-preparation programs.

He has also coached with the Asheboro Zookeepers of the Coastal Plain League, working with collegiate student-athletes in hitting development, outfield play, baserunning, offensive preparation, practice planning, game strategy and daily team operations.

Bolt earned his degree in business management from the University of North Carolina.

Hazen Lancaster – Director of Baseball Operations & Player Development
A 2026 graduate of the UNCG baseball team, Hazen Lancaster joins the baseball coaching staff as a director of operations.

"Hazen's work ethic and attitude as a player will make it an easy transition to this role," said Ellis. "He is someone who loves the game and is eager to learn more. He will handle baseball operations and assist in player development."

Lancaster made six appearances on the mound for the Spartans in the 2026 season with six total strikeouts. He notched a game-high two strikeouts on two different occasions with the Blue & Gold. First, at Mercer on April 26, 2025, and most recently against Samford on April 18, 2026.

He transferred to UNCG from Pitt Community College, where he made 15 total appearances during his freshman and sophomore seasons. During his sophomore year, he went 3-0 with a 5.56 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP. While with the Bulldogs, he was named to the NJCAA Regional 10 All-Academic Team in 2024.

The Raleigh, North Carolina, native has been named to The Southern Conference (SoCon) Academic Honor Roll back-to-back years at UNCG.
He attended Broughton High School, where he played four seasons of baseball for the Broughton Capitals from 2018-21, including the final three as a member of the varsity team. He and the team went 48-24 during his four seasons as both a first baseman and left-handed pitcher under Head Coach Jere Morton.

Lancaster graduated from UNCG in 2026 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
