Cross Country Heads to Cary for adidas XC Challenge on Friday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) cross country teams are headed to Cary, North Carolina, on Friday evening for the adidas XC Challenge, taking part at WakeMed Soccer Park/Cross Country Course.

Hosted by NC State, this is the first meet of the season where both the men (6K, 5:50 p.m. start) and women (5K, 6:30 p.m. start) will run for the Spartans. UNCG's women officially opened the season on Sept. 4, placing fifth in the 4K at the Elon Friday Night Lights meet. Friday marks the first race of the 2026 season for the men. 

MEET INFORMATION WAKEMED SOCCER PARK CROSS COUNTRY COURSE DESCRIPTION – 5K
  • From the start you head downhill for approximately 550m.
  • It runs flat until about the 1050 mark.
  • There is a gradual, winding hill that is approximately 250m in length.
  • The course then flattens out for 150m then you head back down hill for 150m.
  • It runs flat for the next 150m, which brings you past the 1 mile mark.
  • You then head back up the same hill that you started down.
  • After cresting the hill at the starting line, you run flat for approximately 450-500m. Then the course heads down hill, and you begin a series of fairly steep rolling hills (2) that are crested just as you reach the 2 mile mark.
  • There is a long gradual downhill for approximately the next 300m.
  • The course runs flat from about 3600m until about the 4400m mark.
  • The final climb is running up the starting hill one last time and then you run flat for the last 90m into the finish.

LAST TIME OUT
UNCG's women placed fifth as a team in the 4K at the Elon Friday Night Lights meet. Hailey Meyers led the Blue & Gold, finishing 10th among a field of 146 by crossing the line at 14:37.3. She was the first of six Spartans to place top 50, following by Vicky Sosa, Camryn Oates, Keira Mansure, Erica Rash, and Olivia Arnold. Arnold was one of three Spartan runners to make her collegiate debut, joined by Emily Graff and Sasha Helmer

As a team, UNCG's total of 155 points placed the squad ahead of local opponents High Point (211), ECU (219), Winthrop (231), Coastal Carolina (265) and UNCW (280). 

UP NEXT
Both the men and women will run at the Spartan Classic on Oct. 2, hosted at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex by UNCG in Kernersville, North Carolina.
