Stacy Meadows comments on senior Dawn Bright

Greensboro, NC - In search of their third consecutive win the UNC Greensboro volleyball team was defeated, 3-0, by the Southern Conference leading College of Charleston, Saturday afternoon in Fleming Gym. Although the team was swept, UNCG managed to battle the Cougars for much of the match behind the strong play of senior Dawn Bright who was honored before the match. UNCG is now 6-22 overall and 4-12 in the Southern Conference, while College of Charleston moves to 21-5 on the year and 13-2 in the SoCon.
Behind 2-5 in game one, UNCG rallied and pulled to within two points on a kill from LaJean Morrow (Jr./Asheville, NC). An assisted block by Kim Dayton (Jr./Fayetteville, NC) and Holly Long (So./Richmond, VA) closed the gap to one, 5-6, before a kill by Dayton knotted the score at 6-6. The Cougars then regained the advantage and went back up by two, 8-6, but a kill by Lori Collins (Fr./Keeling, VA) ended the Charleston run. Charleston then went on a 7-1 run forcing a timeout by UNCG head coach Stacy Meadows. After the timeout the Spartans responded with back-to-back kills from Dawn Bright (Sr./Aberdeen, NC) and Lori Locascio (Fr./Lisle, IL), but it was not enough to overcome the early deficit as the Cougars took game one, 30-16.
Game two started much like the first for the Spartans as the College of Charleston opened with an early three point lead. However, UNCG quickly regrouped to close the gap to two, 4-6, following a kill by Dawn Bright. Holly Long and LaJean Morrow then teamed up to stuff a Cougar attacker, pulling the Spartans to within one point, 7-8. Charleston then went on another run pushing their lead to eleven points, en route to the 30-13 game two victory. UNCG then showed some of its character in game three, matching the Cougars point-for-point. Dawn Bright continued to lead the Spartans in the third game, recording three of team's final 10 points. However, the College of Charleston managed to hang onto the lead and take the game, 30-21, and the match, 3-0.
UNCG was led by Dawn Bright who recorded a game-high 14 kills to go along with six digs. She now has 316 kills this season with moves her past current head coach Stacy Meadows for the 10th most kills in a season. LaJean Morrow added eight kills and three digs, while Kim Dayton tallied six kills and 10 digs. Rebekah Faulise registered a team-high 12 digs to lead the Spartans defensively.
Alisa Long notched 14 kills for the Cougars, Stephanie Ballard and Tara Greene each added 12, respectively. Mary Sabatino paced the Cougars with 30 assists.
The Spartans will travel to Davidson on Tuesday in a matchup of Southern Conference rivals, opening serve is set for 7 pm.
