James Maye Scored 19 Points & Grabbed Six Rebounds In Spartans' Loss To Chattanooga

Box Score

Ray Bristow added 10 points and three assists for UNCG

Jason Rogan led four Chattanooga players in double-figures with a game-high 22 points to lead the Mocs to a 72-56 victory over UNC Greensboro at the Greensboro Coliseum Tuesday night.

Chattanooga (10-3, 2-0 SoCon) shot a sizzling 54.2% from the floor in the first half of play and didn't cool of much as they connected on 52.4% in the second half. UNCG (3-10, 0-2 SoCon), however, shot just 37.7% from the field, but did connect on all 12 free throw attempts in the game.

In addition to Rogan's 22 points, Ashley Champion added 12, while Alphonso Pugh and Ray Trowell each netted 11 in the victory for Chattanooga. Leading the way for UNCG was James Maye with 19 points. Freshman Ray Bristow was the Spartans' only other scorer in double-figures with 10 points.

After UNCG got on the board first on a James Maye jumper, Chattanooga's Tim Parker promptly drilled a 3-pointer to give the Mocs the lead for good. The Spartans' Jay Joseph hit an open 3-pointer from the wing with 2:32 left in the first half to pull the Spartans within five points, 30-25, and appeared to give the team momentum. Chattanooga however, scored the last six points in the half to pull ahead 36-25 at the intermission.

Chattanooga held at least a 10-point lead the rest of the contest and led by as many as 21, 60-39, with 5:48 left in regulation.

The Spartans have now lost nine consecutive games this season dating back to a November 30 victory over Middle Tennessee, 70-58. The losing streak is the longest since the 1991-92 squad dropped 12 straight in the school's first season in Division I competition.

UNCG returns to the hardwood again on Saturday, January 11, in Boone, NC, against Appalachian State. Tip off is slated for 1 pm. Chattanooga will take on College of Charleston on Saturday, January 11, in Charleston, SC.
